The Icelander will be Åge Hareide’s second signing as Rosenborg boss.

The case is being updated!

Hólmar Örn Eyjólfsson has signed for Rosenborg. The midfielder comes free after concluding the contract with Bulgarian Levski Sofia, writes Rosenborg on his website.

The midfielder has signed a contract until the 2023 season.

– I felt really good here last time and couldn’t have been happier to come back. I know the club, I know the city. For me and my family, this is a great place to be. I want to be successful. The last time I was here, we had a very good team. I want to come here and pursue success again, Eyjólfsson tells the Rosenborg website.

The 30-year-old national team player is already training with the team and work is underway to prepare for Rosenborg’s game against Haugesund on Sunday, the club writes on Twitter.

Return to Lerkendal

The Icelander arrived at Rosenborg in August 2014 and made 93 appearances for Rosenborg until the cup final against Kongsvinger in 2016, before being sold to Israeli club Maccabi Haifa. Since 2018 he has been associated with Levski Sofia, with whom he ended his contract this summer.

The 30-year-old was part of Iceland’s squad for the World Cup in 2018 and played 90 minutes when the Icelanders took on Belgium in the Nations League just over a week ago.

Eyjólfsson was a regular fixture in central defense when Rosenborg seized El Doble two years in a row in 2015 and 2016 and played the Europa League in his previous stint at Lerkendal.

– We know him well and he was successful with Rosenborg the last time he was here. He was one of Levski Sofia’s best players last season and we are happy that he had the opportunity to bring Holmar back, says Rosenborg sporting director Mikael Dorsin.

Hareide’s second booster

Eyjólfsson is Åge Hareide’s second signing since taking over the club in early September.

Last week, Rosenborg picked up Pa Konate from Jönköping’s Södra. Konate has previously had hareide as a coach since his time in Malmö. The 26-year-old was hired to strengthen a rarely-filled left-back position.

On Thursday, Rosenborg advanced to the Europa League playoffs after beating Ventspils 5-1. On Sunday, a home game against Haugesund awaits Hareide’s men.

Rosenborg is after 17 games in fourth place in the Eliteserien table, 18 points behind the magnificent Bodø / Glimt at the top.
