– We must have different rules in Trondheim, Tromsø and Kristiansand than in Oslo, says Ottervik.

Trondheim and Trøndelag now have the lowest infection in all of Norway. Therefore, the mayor wants to do away with the national guidelines.

She believes that it is not reasonable for all regions to be treated the same, when the infection situation is so different.

– The infection situation is completely different in our cities. Business life is bleeding, cultural life is bleeding, and we want to save as many jobs as possible within the infection control rules.

Christmas market opens

Popular Christmas markets have been canceled in several major cities. But not in Trondheim, where the Torvet market opened on Friday.

– We have a large fantastic peat and an area that allows us to settle with a very good distance between the posts. There will be no large accumulations here, and we have guards that make sure all infection control rules are adhered to.

Ottervik now hopes that national authorities can take seriously the mayor’s request to establish regional rules.

– We can adapt both stricter and lighter measures depending on how we perceive the infection situation.

– The bar rules in Oslo don’t have to be the same in Trondheim, nor the concert rules. We also have trained local infection control authorities who can assess this for us, says Ottervik.

– The people of Trøndelag do not live in an isolated world

In Oslo, Health Minister Bent Høie (H) reacts somewhat negatively to Ottervik’s proposal.

– The national infection situation indicates that national measures are necessary. Then the government has said that in a couple of weeks we will assess the level of national measures.

He also notes that local measures are already being taken today, such as in Oslo, where the rules are stricter than in other Norwegian cities.

He also believes that the risk of infection in Trondheim and Trøndelag remains so high that national regulations cannot be ignored.

– The people of Trøndelag do not live in an isolated world, neither nationally nor internationally. That is why they are also affected by the infection situation.
