Review: “Every time we meet – anniversary” on TV 2

TV: Before a new round of “Every Time We Meet” begins over the New Year, TV 2 heats up this fall with a reunion with 29 of the artists from the first nine seasons. The third program of the anniversary season continued tonight with four of the same artists as last time, while Inger Lise Rypdal, Jonas Fjeld and Pål “OnklP” Tøien from the 2015 litter are new to the farm. For dinner, Admiral P and for dessert also Minister of Culture Abid Raja – to present the King’s Medal of Merit to an unsuspecting Rypdal.

– Now I was very moved. How fantastic. Your world, what an honor! I am so childishly proud. What should I say? Thank you very much, Harald, Inger Lise said. He receives the award for his pioneering efforts in art and culture over more than five decades and a lifelong endeavor that can be an example to others.

– From rebel pioneer and soul artist to popular cultural personality, said Raja and proclaimed her “one of our greatest”.

As usual, artists perform each other’s songs and there is also room for surprises. No one is the main character, but Tshawe and Silya are the hosts in the first few episodes.

Thank you very much Harald!

OnklP: “In in in” (Odd Nordstoga)

OnklP has chosen a somewhat atypical song from Odd Nordstoga’s fairly recent album “Fatig Ferdamann”, where he flirts with ancient dance. It’s not among the best on the album, but maybe OnklP can spice it up a bit?

Something extra is expected from OnklP, after several compelling contributions five years ago. Their brilliant cover of “Mrs. Johnsen” was one of the biggest “HGVM” moments of the 2015 season. So it’s a little recession that doesn’t get more out of it. Surprise singing and (almost) not rapping, but it will be just a version of this song inspired by electronics. But it is more relaxed than the original.

It is a song for those who do not dance, this is why it “speaks” to OnklP. And it manages to stay on the skin until a few tries “move” up to the buttocks. Tshawe, on the other hand, takes responsibility and performs an “exotic” dance on the sidelines. It may be remembered better than the song, and that wasn’t the point, was it?

Thank you very much Harald!

Jonas Fjeld: “The ugly man with the back” (Johan Larsson / Pål Tøien)

A lot turned out for Uncle P with this song and his appearance on “Every time we meet,” which was recorded just before his smash hit five years ago. Therefore, no one could perform the song at the time, but here it finally comes.

Of course, it had to be Terje Jensen, or Texas-Jensen, who did it. The two had a very special relationship the last time they met on the farm. He approaches the song in amazement, and then also says modestly, “Now you should listen to the father trying to play Tøien.” But he does it brilliantly!

Jonas Fjeld bets on a dark and a little scary version with a small surf guitar by Truls Hval at the end. The original is intense rap, while Jonas makes it intense in a completely different way with his speech singing brilliant and award-winning text. “One for the books,” says OnklP. You are absolutely right.

Thank you very much Harald!

Eva Weel Skram: “Tordensky” (Terje Jensen / Ole Christian Paus)

The song from Two Rusty Gentlemen’s debut album from 1996 has been one of Eva’s favorites since she heard it on “Absolute Music 18” when she was eleven years old. Finally, discover who is hiding behind the Ole Paus text. Tordensky is Jonas Fjeld’s wife, May Britt.

Together with her husband Thomas Stenersen (guitar), she begins carefully at the piano, while the intensity increases programmatically towards the end. This is Eva’s style, and she masters this simple format very well. He has a great knack for creating value in a song (free after Jonas Fjeld), and it feels like every word means the same amount. It is true that both the tempo and the arrangement will be a bit like his previous song and the previous one, but in the second half, Eva comes like a storm cloud!

Thank you very much Harald!

Tshawe Baqwa: “If you want” (Eva Weel Skram / Thomas Stenersen / Trygve Skaug)

Eva started singing in Norwegian after “Every time we meet”, and then she lost her voice! He sang but did not speak for a year. This song was created during this difficult time, and it is also one of the best, written together with Trygve Skaug. He is one of the artists of the next regular edition of “Every time we meet” in January.

Tshawe has decided to sing it in Eva’s dialect and comments dryly: “As a new compatriot, I beg you to have a little patience”, between general laughter! It could be a fun move, but it is. Maybe it was just a bad idea, because it somehow gets in the way of the important “message” of the text. Musically, it also doesn’t hit the mark with this soul / fusion / R’n’B edition. You will get energy, but this will be more than fussy.

Thank you very much Harald!

Inger Lise Rypdal: “Shine On” (Tshawe Baqwa / Yosef Wolde-Mariam / Yann Peifer / Andres Gunnar Ballinas Olsson / Manuel Reuter)

Inger Lise takes the song to the 80s, the decade in which Tshawe was born. He immediately gives back vibes to Club 7 and the Chipahua house band. Inger Lise has been singing with the soul band since 1982.

She has brought wind instruments to perform this song, which is taken from a collaboration between the German DJ duo RIO and Madcon. Inger Lise’s version is not very different from the original, if you ignore the fact that she doesn’t rap! Instead, he has a softer expression, which is emphasized by the three showgirls. He swings like this, and Tshawe is at least more than happy: “You killed him.” I don’t want to go that far, but the “queen” gets an absolute seal of approval in this case. Who would have thought that this lady is 70 years old?

Thank you very much Harald!

Odd Nordstoga and Silya: “Just in love 70 years” (Benny Borg / Arne Riis)

Who said time goes by? Inger Lise just talked about how she recently fell in love at the age of 70, and then nothing fits better than a cover of this song from 1973!

Odd and Silya perform it reverently, without speculation, as a gentle duo. It’s smooth and nice, with Odd on acoustic guitar and smooth composition. Here I have a feeling of “Ahead of oblivion.” You don’t need to do anything wild with every song, but this will be more than easy. But it will also be a good transition to the big surprise tonight.

“Every time we meet” returns next Friday, with Wenche Myhre as a new guest. Then Admiral P also gets behind the microphone.
