(Shakhtar Donetsk – Real Madrid 2-0) Martin Ødegaard (21) was involved from the beginning, but could not avoid defeats in Kiev. Now Real Madrid depends on help to get out of the group.
First it was Brazilian Dentinho who took advantage of a defensive loss in the back rows of Real Madrid – and put the goal 1-0 against Thibaut Courtois.
Real Madrid made three substitutions just a quarter of an hour before full time. Karim Benzema, Martin Ødegaard and Rodrygo were retired and replaced by Mariano Díaz, Isco and Vinicius junior.
But it was another substitute who left his mark on the game. Israeli Manor Solomon took the lead on the field and made it 2-0 for the Ukrainians.
The defeat means that whether Borussia Mönchengladbach beat Inter later on Tuesday night, it will depend on the Italians getting points from Shakhtar in the final group stage match, at the same time they beat Gladbach at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Martin Ødegaard was active before the break and came close to scoring for an assist, but Anatolij Trubin stopped Marco Asensio’s attempt. By then, the latter already had a ball on the post.

After the break, both Ødegaard and Real Madrid became less and less dominant. Shakhtar Donetsk shook Real Madrid when they took a 3-0 lead at halftime at the Santiago Bernabéu, a match they ultimately won 3-2.
On Tuesday night they managed to scalp Real Madrid for the second time this fall.
Previously, CSKA Moscow (2018/19), Juventus (2008/09), Bayern Munich (1999/00) and Ajax (1995/96) did the same against Real Madrid.
The Spanish team in the capital now have one win, one draw and three losses in the last five games.
