394 days after Amund Vold (22) was diagnosed with blood cancer, he is making a comeback during the National Championships.

On August 8 of last year, the paddler of the national team was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. On August 8 of this year, he received a response to the coronation test: Positive.

– We can probably say that August 8 is an accident day, says Amund Vold to VG.

You have to laugh a little. Well, both have gone well. The 22-year-old underwent a coronation test when he had a headache and pain in his body.

– But the next day he was better, so I wasn’t prepared for the positive response at all. I recovered very quickly, says Vold.

It was isolated. Health workers were a bit concerned.

– They read my diary and thought it might be serious. They said I just had to get in touch if something happened, says Vold.

He got a new bone marrow from his older brother Lars Christian at Christmas.

– The new immune system works, says the 22-year-old.

And now you are ready for NM. He is registered for K1 1000, 500 and 200 meters during the Norwegian championships in Årungen. Before getting sick, it was predicted that he would become Norway’s next paddle tennis star. It was he who took up the legacy of Eirik Verås Larsen and Knut Holmann. He and his brother E vivos were just a second from the podium in the K2 1000 meters at the World Cup last summer. The qualifiers for the World Cup and the Olympics were smoking for cancer.

– It will be very painful not to fight for victory. When I cross the finish line and I’m beaten by someone I shouldn’t lose to, it will hurt, says Vold and laughs a little.

A year ago, the greatest hope of the Norwegian padel fell ill with cancer. At first, he envisioned two and a half years of chemotherapy, but when not all the cancer cells were gone after 80 days of treatment, there was a bone marrow transplant.

– When I got sick with cancer, it was unthinkable that I could compete now. I thought I would row again in 2022, says Vold and continues:

– It means a lot to me to participate in the NM. I had not imagined that things were so fast. I am at a good enough level to be in NM. Now I can start the way back.

World Cup winner Amund Vold is in the middle of the war on cancer – now his brother can save him

By March, he was ready for four workouts a week.

– The goal of the NC is the final, but it will take a little longer. I also hope to put those who are rising and behind the national team in their place. It would have been fun if I could do it, says Vold and laughs.

Your best chances are at 1000 and 500 meters. Cytotoxicity and bone marrow transplantation have gone beyond the condition. Muscles are fine on their way back.

The last time he competed was on June 30 of last year. Then she took silver in the K1 1000 meters in the U23-EM.

– NM will be the only competition this year due to crown. So there will be many with nerves in full swing, says Vold.

He has had a few sessions where he has made a full recovery. Today the 22-year-old from the Oslo Kayak Club needs more time than before to recover. So it may be that the ambitious NM target with three distances is in excess.

– Now I’m looking forward to New Mexico, but I don’t know if I’m looking forward to it, it will be incredibly painful. I hope to live up to the predictions eventually and be able to pick up where I left off, the 22-year-old says offensively.
