Molde had not had corona infections since Easter. Now, 500 inhabitants have been quarantined.
– It’s quite dramatic, if you think about the number of positive tests in the last week, says Mayor Torgeir Dahl (H) to VG.
25 shapers have tested positive for corona in just over a week, one has been hospitalized. Most are adults, but two are fifth graders at Langmyra School.
On Sunday, Molde’s municipal chief doctor, Cato Innerdal, immediately introduced a ban on organized activities for all pupils at the city’s primary school.
– Students can be together in their free time, but it is very important that they comply with the rules of infection control, says Innerdal in a press release.

A student is active in both soccer and handball, which has led to local grassroots sports canceling soccer school, handball school, and other gatherings.
– Anyone who has trained or played a game against the infected should be immediately quarantined and tested, says the municipality’s crisis team.

The ban applies until October 11 and does not include private events like confirmations and birthdays. The OFS and the kindergartens can remain open as usual.
– The municipality was free of contagion from before Easter until the beginning of September. Then we had two cases in September and since then it collapsed, says the mayor of Molde.
14 cases were linked to a friends’ dinner, where all but one were infected. 3-4 got sick after a meeting within a company, two got infected in a gym.
– The 500 who have been quarantined are connected to all cases, says Dahl.

The municipality of Molde inaugurated the test station in Nøisomhed this weekend.
– The sampling has increased dramatically. Eighty have been tested, we expect a response Monday morning and are a bit excited, Mayor Dahl says.
78 people were tested on Saturday. All tests were negative, except for the fifth grade.
Prepared for the wave of infection
The mayor boasts of the municipal superior and the infection monitoring team.
– They have quickly managed to get an overview of who has been exposed and will be quarantined.
Dahl says the municipality was primed for a new wave of infections this fall.
– The prognosis was that the infection would re-bloom and it has worked. And then there have been a series of somewhat unfortunate circumstances. We see that some infect very many in a short time.

He says that the infection also had to reach Molde.
– Fast and concentrated
– It was almost too good to be true, that we were infection free for so long.
Dahl points out that there have been Bjørnson Festival and Moldejazz and the launch of a scientific university and a large influx of tourists to the city of roses.
– But it came fast and focused.
– Have the Moldanos become ruthless?
– It may be that the guard has been a little lower than desirable, when we have been so long without a single case of contagion. But I have no reason to say that people have been careless, says Dahl.
The municipality of Molde emphasizes that it is extremely important that everyone comply with the quarantine rules and recalls that the quarantine cannot be interrupted, if the test is negative.
