Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino could be Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s replacement, says a British newspaper.

The Manchester Evening News writes that the Manchester United management has contacted Mauricio Pochettino.

According to the newspaper, the representatives of the former Tottenham coach have received a query from the big club, which is currently struggling.

United are currently 15th in the Premier League, losing 1-2 in the Champions League to Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday.

Pochettino: – Ready to go back

The Manchester Evening News reported in December last year that Pochettino could imagine Manchester United’s job, and his attitude shouldn’t have changed.

This weekend, the Argentine was invited into the Sky Sports Premier League studio and made it clear that he feels ready to take on a new managerial role.

Alsaker: – Tension increases towards the Everton game

TV 2 Premier League commentator Øyvind Alsaker sees a trend in British journalists who thought Solskjær’s appointment was ridiculous, constantly popping up when there is adversity, while being completely calm when the team goes 14 matches in a row without losing. .

However, he believes it is natural that speculation now arises about the Norwegian’s future at the club.

– Now he is approaching two years. Then the lower level must go up. He can’t sink in losses to Burnley at home and Basaksehir away. That is the danger here. In that sense, it is a serious result, for that group over which they had total control. Now the tension is mounting towards Everton this weekend. Solskjærs United have always struggled long after embarrassing experiences. If they stop doing that, blink a bit, Alsaker tells Nettavisen.

Alsaker believes that Manchester United and Mauricio Pochettino can be a good match.

– There’s no reason to believe it won’t work. He is a highly valued coach, with the ability to build young talent, who fits the profile. In that case, Solskjær will leave him a solid foundation and a stable that he should be fighting for, with plenty of young players from his own production, says Alsaker, who believes that Solskjær will leave a much healthier United than Louis van Gaal and José Mourinho.

Sources the Manchester Evening News spoke to are said to have spoken with, claiming that Solskjær had management support until Wednesday’s loss in Istanbul and basically does not want to ditch the Norwegian so early in the season.

However, should there be a loss to Everton this weekend, Manchester United could be in a surprisingly weak 17th place, and the pressure on Solskjær and management will mount.

Solskjær won’t talk about his future at United

Following the Champions League defeat on Wednesday, Solskjær was asked about his future in the wake of Roy Keane’s statement that the behavior of the players will see the Norwegian fired.

– I refrain from commenting on such things. Of course, it is early in the season and opinions will always be there. One must be strong. The club hired me to do a job and I do the best I can with my support staff, Solskjær replied.

The former Molde manager is now the bookmaker’s favorite to become the next Premier League manager to be fired.

Mauricio Pochettino has been without a management position since he was fired from Tottenham in November 2019, following a weak start to last season. Pochettino was replaced by former Manchester United manager José Mourinho, who is still in the coach’s chair at Spurs.

Pochettino has so far won nothing as a manager, but he led Tottenham to the Champions League final in May 2019, where they lost to Liverpool.
