Last week, Pornhub was accused of allowing the sharing of abuse videos, which they themselves deny. Now the world’s largest porn site is changing its guidelines.

On Friday of last week, the New York Times published an important article, in which several young women report that videos of them have been shared on Pornhub, without their knowledge and will. Several of the videos are to show women when they are under the age of sexual consent and are therefore considered abusive material.

Pornhub itself denies the allegations.

On Sunday, the American credit card company Mastercard came out and said they will launch an investigation into the allegations against Pornhub, through its ties to the bank used by Mindgeek, writes Reuters.

“If the allegations in the article are true, we will take action immediately,” Mastercard said in a statement.

On Tuesday of this week, Pornhub writes on their pages that they are now changing the guidelines.

Can’t download videos

The porn site only allows verified users to upload videos and the feature has been stopped for all users. The verification process will start next year.

They have also removed the ability to download videos, which previously made deleted footage easily reappear.

“Today we are taking great steps to further protect our society,” they wrote on the website Tuesday.

In addition, they write that extensions have also been made to their moderation process, but it is not clear from the new guidelines what will be done specifically with existing content.

– Over the years, we have put strong measures in place to protect our platform against content without consent. We constantly improve our trust and safety rules to make it easier to remove, review, and report illegal material. While leading organizations acknowledge that our efforts have been effective, we know there is more left, writes Pornhub.

Strong reactions

Pornhub is the largest porn site in the world, with 3.5 billion monthly views from around the world. It is owned by the Canadian company Mindgeek.

The New York Times article has generated strong reactions. Billionaire Bill Ackman has also urged credit card companies VISA and American Express to do the same as Mastercard.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Saturday that the country’s police and security authorities are working on the allegations made against Pornhub.

“We will do what we can to make sure that all Canadians are safe,” Trudeau said.
