Polestar to put Precept into production

Polestar announces that they will put the Precept concept car into production. This is a four-seater “great coupe” with a lot of future technology. It was unveiled earlier this year.

However, the car, which is of course fully electric, does not come with the former. Polestar boss Thomas Ingenlath says production is at least three years away.

So in the meantime, we’ll probably meet at least one new Polestar model, the upcoming Polestar 3 SUV.

According to the manufacturer’s press release, Precept is in development. When the concept was unveiled in February, the purpose was to illustrate the manufacturer’s visions for the future. If we are to believe the press release, the feedback they received was instrumental in making the decision to make the car a reality.

– “Amazing. Spectacular. Pioneering. We want to see you on the road!” Was what the press wrote about Precept, and customers said “we want it”. So we decided to build it, says Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath in the message.

He believes that Precept should represent changes in the auto industry. According to the plan, the car will have zero net CO emissions_twoequivalents when delivered. But he also believes that the goal of delivering climate-neutral cars is a long-term goal.

Then Mr. Ingenlath reminds us that Volkswagen already claims that they can do this with their ID.3, albeit juggling climate quotas, among other things.

Made from recycled plastic and linen

The Precept concept will be realized with an interior made from sustainable materials, such as recycled plastic bottles, fishing nets and cork vinyls. The body and interior are made in part of a composite material of flax fiber and resin. This is developed by Swiss Bcomp, which also supplies the material for the new Volta Zero electric truck. We assume that the use of Polestar will be the same, that is, to make body panels that are biodegradable and that can be burned through recycling.

Otherwise, the car will be made in China and a new production plant will be established in connection with this car. This should be a carbon neutral plant.

Polestar already has a factory in Chengdu in the Sichuan province of China. Here they put together the low-volume Polestar 1 car. If they anticipate a similar price level at Precept, it’s not inconceivable that it could go into production here.

This is a mountainous area with a lot of precipitation and therefore also a lot of hydroelectric power. Hydro capacity should be 90,000 megawatts here, so in principle it shouldn’t be a big hoax to provide power with a low carbon footprint.

Another advantage of producing here is that the cars can be transported westward by train and do not necessarily have to be transported by ship.

Unknown factory location

However, Polestar is silent on where they intend to produce. Polestar 2 is produced in Luqiao, about 300 km south of Shanghai.

However, sustainability must be very important to the car brand.

– China is a domestic market for Polestar, and we see the push for more sustainability here. With this new factory, we will once again raise the bar, aiming to produce the most advanced premium electric car in China with as little CO as possible._twoprint, Ingenlath says in the press release.
