Big cuts in the new Oslo budget: – This will hurt, says group leader Øystein Sundelin in the Conservative Party.

Wednesday at 1:00 p.m., the Oslo City Council formed by the Labor Party, the Socialist People’s Party and the MDGs presented the new budget of the municipality for 2021.

In several places, the city council is taking steps to raise more fees and cut services. Much of the reason is the coronavirus, which has led to lower tax revenues and large additional expenses for the municipality.

The Oslo school receives a cut of 500 million crowns. Kindergartens and care for the elderly receive cuts of nearly a billion crowns.

– This is the biggest budget cut in the history of Oslo. Locals will notice this, conservative group leader Øystein Sundelin tells Nettavisen.

Conservatives react in particular to the fact that, at the same time that the city council spends large sums on the purchase of private kindergartens, the municipality must cut important services such as care and schools.

– Unfortunately, we see that the city council has no plans on how the municipality can function more efficiently without the employees having to work harder and run faster. The budget is chemically free of cost-cutting and structural change proposals, Sundelin says.

At the same time, fees and charges are increased in the budget. The prices of public transport adjust to the prices and therefore increase. Resident parking becomes much more expensive, with a price increase of 50 percent in one year.
