On New Years, it closed Tøyenbadet in Oslo, which has now leveled off to make way for a new bathroom facility worth NOK 1.4 billion.
When the old bathing closed, a temporary swimming pool in Økern was supposed to be ready, but now the opening of the bathing facilities is once again postponed, Nettavisen is informed.
– We are now in the process of working and have planned its completion during the first quarter of 2021, says Ingvild Åsgård, communications manager at Tøyenbadet.

Abandoned and speechless
The delay causes the Liberal Party in Oslo to react strongly.
– I am exhausted and speechless, says the leader of the group of the Liberal Party in the Oslo City Hall, Hallstein Bjercke, to Nettavisen.
In December last year, the Oslo Sports Council, Rina Mariann Hansen (Labor Party), promised that the replacement toilet would be ready before Tøyenbadet was demolished.
– It should be in place until the demolition begins, Hansen told Aftenposten.

With the latest postponement, the consequence will be that many in Oslo will be left without a bathing and swimming offer for more than a year.

– Half the time in bad condition
The last time Nettavisen wrote about the temporary toilet, in April, he was already long overdue. The project was then scheduled for completion during the year.
– This temporary toilet should open when Tøyenbadet closes at the end of the year this year, it should also be in operation until the new Tøyenbadet opens in 2023. 31 mill crack
The reason for the recent delay is that costs have been higher than expected.
– Bids received from contractors were not within the agreed cost framework for the project. It took some time for the rounds of negotiations and the consideration of an additional allocation to the revised budget in late June. Work began during the summer and the bathroom is scheduled to be completed during the first quarter of 2021, Åsgård says.
The City Council approved an additional grant for bathroom facilities of NOK 31 million at its meeting on June 24. The total cost of the temporary toilet is NOK 75 million.
COST CRACK: The bathroom facilities at Økern are once again on display. This time because the price was higher than the politicians had decided and therefore they had to provide an additional grant of 31 million crowns.

Councilor: – I understand that people are dissatisfied
The current councilor of the sports agency in Oslo, Omar Samy Gamal (SV), says that people should be patient.
– Everyone who loves to swim in Oslo notes that Tøyenbadet is closed. Tøyen has accounted for 30 percent of the capacity in Oslo. We’ve been prepared for it to be a few lean years before it improves, Gamal tells Nettavisen, adding:
– Now we also have infection control restrictions. We ask people to be patient and use the other bathrooms. Several of them are newly renovated.
Gamal admits that Oslo has a severe shortage of sports facilities, and especially bathrooms.
– No new public toilets have been built since 1983. It takes time to remedy this. The new Tøyenbadet will have eight groups compared to the current five, and conditions will be much better. We are working on new toilets in Stovner and Manglerud, and have started looking for solutions for West Oslo, says the city councilor.

He also notes that building a bathroom is “one of the most expensive and time-consuming” than they do.

Fully welded steel basin
The pool, to be built next to the Løren school in Økern, will be built as a fully welded 12.5 x 25 meter steel pool. The depth varies up to 1.5 meters, so it is also planned for swimming lessons.

A plastic construction will be built over the pool. Two wardrobes for ladies, two for men, and a family wardrobe are also being built.
