– The toll. The ban on fur animals. Regional reform. It’s good to no longer run NM swallowing camels.
Outgoing FRP leader Siv Jensen sums up the problems she’s “not so proud of” since she was in government.
– We are very proud of much of what we have achieved in government. But we must also be honest in telling stories about the things we were in and are not so proud of. But there is still much left after our years in government, which will not be reversed, and which I think means great progress for the country, he tells Dagbladet.
Queen Siv
Irrelevant alien
On Thursday of last week, he surprised the country by announcing his own departure. He pointed to Sylvi Listhaug as his heir.
Jensen says he has no idea what to do now, but one thing can be ruled out:
– Jobs abroad are not relevant. One of the main reasons to leave politics is to be more with the family, then I will not leave the country. I can say that for sure, says Jensen.
Ronald Reagan’s photo still hangs in his office at the Storting. Jensen has not yet begun to properly pack the memories of 24 years in Løvebakken.
But after the elections, it was over. Jensen says he thinks Frp, who is struggling with polls, can still make a good decision. But she flatly refuses to quantify a goal.
– We got off to a good start as a party with a new leader. This was also suitable for me personally, because I need to do something else in life. Now I will spend more time with those with whom I am happiest in the world, he says.
Last week, Jensen was opened up in an interview with Dagbladet about how important family is to her.
– Facing destructive forces
Cry this weekend
Until the fall, she will continue to sit in the Storting, but after that an era in Norwegian politics is over. Jensen admits that she was relieved in the days after the decision was announced.
– When was the last time you cried?
– This weekend, actually.
– Do you regret it?
– Haha no. I cried because we achieved the gold of the World Cup in biathlon.
– So you move so easily?
– Yes. Any sport can make me cry if Norway wins, says Jensen.
This is how Frp from Listhaug
Book offer
The former finance minister says she has done a lot of research to write a book in recent days. So far, no publisher has received a yes, but most have already tried.
– I may write my memoirs once, but I haven’t fully decided yet.
Jensen smiles and says that “surprisingly few” have called “mårna Jensen” for her in the days after she left.
– But I was prepared for many more to say so. I’ve made it clear that yelling “mårna Jens” was not my proudest moment, she says.
Not everyone loves Sylvi Listhaug
– The Socialist Vedum
Only three people have sat longer than Jensen in the finance minister’s chair since 1884. And she has been the party’s leader for 15 years. In the fall, perhaps the “damn socialists” will also take over the government of the country.
– Vedum or Jonas as prime minister, do you have to choose?
– I don’t want a socialist government, that’s why I don’t want any of them.
– Vedum is not a socialist?
– Just pretend it’s not. Just look at who he’s going to work with.
Refuse flirting with Jens
She says Jens Stoltenberg is the one she has worked the most for as a counter-debater. But Stoltenberg was also someone he liked to argue with, says Siv Jensen.
– Jens and I joke more than anyone, I think we encourage each other that way. We could talk really well together right before we go out and argue in the debate. However, it was the most difficult to find in a debate, because it was very thorough and rhetorically strong.
– There was never a flirtation between you, right?
– No, there was never any flirting there.
Family crises decided
A tip for yourself
Jensen says that she has become calmer, calmer, and more generous with age; the FRP says this is because it has also become more self-confident.
She remembers with a smile the tall shoulders she had when she was first elected to the Storting in 1997 and ended up on the finance committee.
– It was very exciting and scary. I was very inexperienced. He did not know what a state budget looked like. I remember bringing the entire state budget, a big pile, to my office. I really wanted to dominate, I knew everything that was in my power. So I lived in the office, slept a few hours on the couch, showered in the women’s closet in the morning, and went through the documents until I reached the finish line.
– What advice does Siv Jensen give himself in 2021 in 1997?
– That it is allowed not to make everything perfect. I think I, unfortunately like a lot of women, feel like we have to know things 120 percent before it’s good enough. This is probably not what many men think and can sometimes get in the way of women in our careers.
– I would cry myself to sleep every night
– You have been clear that you have sacrificed a lot for politics. Have you sacrificed children and your own family?
– I have been asked that question for many years from the Lord. But people must remember that I myself have chosen everything. I can’t blame anyone but myself, they are my decisions for my life. But you get to a point where you no longer want to miss out on things nearby. I’ve been saddened for a long time because of everything I’ve missed.
– Finally, what three words would you use to describe yourself?
– Please. Raus. Strong punch.
– Kind and generous, actually?
– Yes, I think it would be correct to say so.
