At least two people are injured after a knife attack in the French capital.

At least two people were injured, one seriously, following a knife attack in Paris on Friday, and one alleged perpetrator has been arrested by French police.

A person with traces of blood on his clothes was arrested around 12:45 at L’Opera Bastille. The person in question may be one of the suspects, reports Le Figaro.

It was previously reported that two people were searched in connection with the attack.

One was seen disappearing into the subway while the other alleged aide was at street level near the scene in District 11.

According to NTB, the police believe around 1:30 p.m. that only one person was behind the knife attack.

However, police are conducting a search in the area while the detainee is being questioned, police sources told AP.

Large police forces are on the streets and the special police force is in place.

People in the area have been asked to stay indoors, and schools in the area have closed their doors and kept students indoors, according to Paris Mayor Ariel Weil.

The stabbings took place near the former facility of Charlie Hebdo, who was the target of a terrorist attack in 2015.

This is confirmed by the French Prime Minister, Jean Castex, in a message on Twitter.

– There has been a knife attack near Charlie Hebdo’s old premises. I immediately went to Place Beavau to get an overview of the situation with the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, writes Castex.

The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, holds the position at the Elysee Palace, where he has had crisis personnel, writes Le Figaro.

Two police sources told Reuters a knife weapon was found at the scene, but it is unclear whether it is a machete or a meat ax.

A suspicious package has also been found outside the former satire magazine premises and police barricades have been erected around the area, Reuters reports.

Police sources tell Reuters that the suspicious package does not contain explosives.

The trial against several of those who allegedly contributed to the 2015 attack on the satire magazine Charlie Hebdo in which 12 people were murdered began 14 days ago. It is unknown if there is a connection between the trial and Friday’s attack.

So far it is not known what the motive for the attack is.
