It is a very excited Tufte who tells the press that he is going to the Olympics next year. He says there has been a lot of work and a lot of rounds.

– I want to finish in style, says Tufte.

He also thanks the family, the fans, the rowers and his wife Aina Tufte.

– It’s not just about getting in the boat to get loose. I have worked to get people and support. Now the goal is to start sleeping, says Hortens’s rower.

I’ve been in the expert group

In March, Olaf Tufte told NRK that he would resign as an athlete if the Tokyo Olympics were postponed.

– Rowing is, as is known, a sport that does not make you rich in sugar. Everything has to go up. I’m motivated by all kinds of weird things, but I have a responsibility that is so much more than myself, Tufte said when the postponement was made.

So Hortens’ rower decided to join the expert group. Today came the news that he has decided to continue investing.

– We have been in the expert group for a long time, and the reason is that for the first time in 27 years I saw my departure. It was time to do something new, like be home, says Tufte.

She says that she has never worked so hard to figure things out and that family comes first and foremost.

“I’ve always said that Aina makes the decision,” says Tufte.

The wife revealed the news

It was also his wife Aina Tufte who had the honor of telling that her husband continues.

– It may surprise me a little how moved you were now, but it may show how much it means and what has been worked on, he says.

He goes on to say that March came as a small tornado that went beyond the jobs, the farm, and not least the Olympics. So it was good to step back a bit to breathe and find out where the road was going next.

– You’ve lubricated your wife well. He has been extremely at home, we have never been so close together, says a smiling Aina Tufte.

He goes on to say that they have been sleeping in the same bed since March. Something that had never happened before. She has had a taste of having her husband as a rowing boarder, which has been very nice.

– However, we have decided that you will be allowed to travel a little more. So I have to wait until August of next year before I have a perpetual retirement, he says.

Seventh Olympiad

The Tokyo Olympics will be Tufte’s seventh Olympics, and the plan is to participate in Norway’s double fours at the championship.

This summer, the director of the national team, Johan Flodin, confirmed to VG that Olaf Tufte could participate in the Olympics.

– I have followed it for seven years and I think it is now as good as in the previous Olympic cycle and in 2015, Flodin told the newspaper at the time.
