Per Gunvald Haugen (45) put all the gloomy predictions in the obstacle course to shame.
PG, as they call it, took the big shot and thus secured first place in the semi-final at “The Farm.”
I have you? It is out and available in the market
The man from Gjerstad was the one everyone else feared less before the competition. Best knew the triumph.
– They weren’t that good at setting quotas, but I had a good feeling myself, explains Haugen to VG.
But it was in the dangling hair. He beat Thor Haavik (26) by just three seconds.
– I understood that it would be even between Thor and me. It was crazy to win, says Haugen, who believes it was rowing that played a decisive role.
– I was very good there. The victory tasted good, he says.
Haugen, the oldest of the five remaining participants, was the first to try the obstacle course. Thus he had the pleasure of seeing everyone else in action.
– Then it cost me. It was incredibly important to get that spot in the semi-final, especially since everyone else was considered favorites in front of me, he says.
Haugen points out that age doesn’t matter anyway.
– No age is nothing. I’m still a bastard. A bastard with a very competitive instinct, he smiles.
The last week is underway and Haugen says there are rough conditions around him at home. Friends and colleagues are very curious.
– It’s boiling good now. Participation in the town is huge and very fun. Many people wonder what will happen next and how far I will go, but I keep my secrets well, says the 45-year-old, who was a great farmer last week and who, against all odds, got a knife.
See what it was like when an attempt was made to sabotage the weekly allowance (the article continues below the video):
Haugen entered the farm as a challenger a few weeks after the others. All the way, you’ve heard from some that the challenger is not as full a participant as everyone else.
After the victory in the steeplechase, Haugen himself believes that he has proven himself worthy of a place in the last week.
– He deserved to be there, you have to allow it.
– What were the tactics in the last week?
– I knew we would eventually get a knowledge test, and I was not the one who had read the most. Otherwise, we didn’t know anything about what was going to happen. Actually, I did my best to stay calm, he says.
– The first cup of coffee after the obstacle course, when I sat down and watched the others fight, it tasted fantastic, he adds.
– What is it like to see you on television?
– At first it was a bit strange. They cut and edit violently. Only a small percentage of what happens is shown, says the semifinalist.
Haugen, who works as a senior insurance advisor, is still quite satisfied with his own figure.
– I feel like I’ve been very tolerant of myself all the time.
Karianne Kopperstad (27) and Karianne Vilde Wølner (26) thought in advance that they would do better in the obstacle course. They finished in the end.
Kopperstad in particular struggled, who thought it was a smart move to drop his shoes. It turned out to be a disco boom.
Thor Haavik, the priest who has never been in a duel or figures as a great farmer, was therefore the one who gave Haugen the most competition.
– It’s a bit bitter to be a few seconds behind, says Haavik somewhat puzzled after the classification has been read.
