GRORUDDALEN (VG) Police received a report on Sunday night that a man had been shot and wounded on an open street in Oslo. – Investigations show the extent of damage is believed to be due to a knife, police say.
– We were notified at 11:01 pm that a person had been shot. Based on what we’re sitting on, it has happened outdoors, operations manager Gjermund Stokkli told VG just after kl. 23.30.
There was a large police force in the area and searches were conducted with both crews and patrols of dogs.
– We are looking for two at least two people who should have fled the place. They may have escaped by car, but we don’t know. We apply widely, says Stokkli.
According to COO Erik Hestvik, the man should not be seriously injured.
– We have a little more extensive knowledge of what should have happened, without me being able to go into details about the injuries of the wounded, he tells VG right after kl. 01.
– But was he shot?
– We work with more alternatives than that. But the initial message to us was that he had been shot and we are searching the immediate area. We are aware of the injuries that the victims have.
– Are there gunshot wounds?
– I will not comment further on this until I have received full feedback from the hospital.
Shortly after 02 o’clock, the police inform VG that the man was probably not shot.
– Nothing found indicating gunshot wounds. The extent of the damage is believed to be due to a knife, says operations manager Christian Krohn Engeseth.
– But have shots been fired?
– The message we got from AMK was that it was an explosion. We don’t know where the bangs came from. No indications have been found that shots were fired there. The aggrieved party’s explanations also indicate that a knife or other pointed object was used. But the site is still being worked on.
Questioned at the hospital
At 11:44 p.m., Operations Manager Christian Krohn Engeseth stated that the man in his 30s had been sent to hospital for treatment and that the perpetrators were still being searched.
Technical investigations are ongoing on the ground and the police are also questioning witnesses.
– The hypothesis that we are working on from now on is that this is not a random event. We work on the basis that there is a relationship between victims and perpetrators, task leader Erik Hestvik tells VG right after kl. 01.
Right after kl. 01, Operations Manager Engeseth claims the man in his 30s is out of the woods.
– He is being treated at Ullevål hospital and is conscious. We have had a dialogue with the victims about what may have happened. We work from what he explains to define who could have done this.
Engeseth will not elaborate on what the man said in questioning.
You want information about the truck
Task leader Hestvik says police are looking for information on a silver-gray van.
– In connection with the incident, two or more perpetrators were observed, we put them in connection with a silver gray van. A vehicle that should have left the scene immediately after the incident, and we are interested in all the information about that vehicle.
– Do you know anything that could indicate what the motive is, or is it from the victim or from those you are looking for in a special environment?
– The police have a clear opinion on this, but I will not comment further.
