FINAL: Saturday will be Andreas Wahl’s last dance in “Skal vi danse”. Photography: Janne Møller-Hansen

Physicist Andreas Wahl has danced to the final. But now it will be good to spend time with the family again, regardless of the result.

– There is no place for so much in life, Andreas Wahl (37) tells VG about the so-called “dance bubble”.

He and Mai Mentzoni (26) have impressed both the judges and the spectators on the court Saturday after Saturday, but now the time has come. Will “Shall we dance” win, or Nate Kahungu (24) and his dance partner Helene Spilling (24)?

– Now it just feels intense. I was pretty sick last Saturday but now I have had a few days of hard training and only a few hours with the family. “I’ve digested a bit, and now he’s up to speed trying to convince in the final,” says Wahl.

He’s already been open to feeling divided during the day, almost a bit inappropriate. On Halloween, it was Frankenstein’s monster, and that’s exactly how it feels, stapled in various parts.

– And so it is in many ways. I am still a bit “Folkeopplysningen” -Andreas, but now I am also “Skal vi danse” – Andreas, I am a family man, a colleague and I have a small company with employees that I will take care of, he says and continues:

– I can’t handle all this. There are many directions, I am a bit divided. But then we can try to use it on the dance floor as well.

And they have. In the finale comes a dance that tries to be in the now, disconnect from digital and prioritize attention.

Marte Bratberg from “Skal vi danse”: – I’m so sorry

Last name

– What are you looking forward to the most when “Skal vi danse” ends?

– I really want to spend more time with the family. I have two little ones at home and I know it. I’ve known for a while, Wahl says.

But first comes the final, and both Andreas and dance partner Mai are excited. This applies to the dance itself, but also to what it will be like when it’s all over.

– I know I’ll get some abstinence. I know that next week, I will be very happy to be with the family. And then I’ll feel a void there after all the dancing, says Wahl.

– Yes, it’s so intense. You can’t recreate that normally then, Mentzoni continues.

And now the body is tired, but fortunately the physique has managed to avoid serious injuries.

– That was the goal. We should not smoke due to injury, he says and adds:

– But the body is tired, and much smaller than when I started!

– You no longer have any pants, the dance partner enters.

– None of the pants fit. These are my training pants, and I don’t know what else to wear after “Shall we dance?” The other pants are several inches larger, reveals a laughing Wahl.

Demanding transition

Andreas Wahl went from being “Folkeopplysningen” and physicist to becoming “Skal vi danse” -Andreas. In addition, he reached the final. How was that transition?

– Now it is the transition back that will be equally demanding. I’m totally in the dancing bubble!

She doesn’t think she’ll be posing in a sequin suit on the next “Folkeopplysningen” show, but there’s still a little way back.

– I understand that people were surprised when I accepted this. I was surprised too, but it was absolutely amazing. I am very grateful and happy for all the training and learning of dance.

Also, it will be strange to say goodbye to dance partner Mai. The two have been dancing together every day for several months, and Wahl has learned all he can about dancing from her. Saturday will be the last dance.

– You know, the two of us have never had coffee together in a cafe? she asks.

– I know. It may not work. Maybe we need to rent a ballroom to meet up, Wahl jokes.
