Halvor Egner Granerud won Saturday’s world cup race in show jumping at Russian Nizhny Tagil. It was his second win in a row, but the most impressive achievement was Robert Johansson.
He jumped from 25th to 3rd place, after setting a hill record of 142.5 meters. And not only that: he scored and had 58 style points.
– I’ve never seen anything like this before, says coach Alexander Stöckl to Dagbladet.
– Yes, what can you say about the jump?
– Fy flate!
Granerud tinkled with two jumps of 132.5 meters and 132 meters, respectively, and beat Austrian Daniel Huber by almost 15 points. Johansson was just 1.6 points behind Huber.
Johansson missed in the first round and landed at 120.5 meters. He only had five jumpers behind him.
In the second half he saw black and jumped the longest jump of all time on the ground in Nizhny Tagil. Johann André Forfang held the ancient hill record of 141.5 meters, set in 2017.
– What happened?
– Robert hit the jump edge at the right time. She picked up speed with him, at the same time that a windy wall rose from the ground. On the ground track he was stable. He dared to press on and take a hard, determined shot. It was incredible. There were many on the coaching staff who were impressed afterwards.
NRK expert Johan Remen Evensen also took off live:
– It’s pretty wild. Your world for a jump with 58 style points on a hill record. You rarely see. Now we start talking about the guys who are the toughest and dare to put the brakes on the ground.
– I went the week of the rematch after the first round, says Johansson to the YouTube channel of the jumpers.
– I decided to go down correctly and press. That was a slightly dead answer. But when the skis arrived, they stayed there.
The victory was Granerud’s second in a row. Now he leads the general of the World Cup and has a yellow jersey.
– Very good day. I went for a run this morning, and then my body just felt absolutely fantastic. I felt as if I had rockets in my legs, says Granerud.
– How does it feel to wear the yellow jersey?
– It’s completely raw. It is a dream.
Germany’s Markus Eisenbichler led superbly after the first half, but had difficult conditions and completely failed on the second jump.
