STAVANGER (VG) It had been five years since he last scored for Viking, but in overtime Yann-Erik de Lanlay (28) became the great hero against Strømsgodset.

With his draw within three minutes of extra time against Strømsgodset, Yann-Erik de Lanlay scored his first goal for Viking in 1933 days.

– It is clear that it is great to score for Viking. It gives confidence, and it’s something you have to take with you further, de Lanlay tells VG after saving a point against Strømsgodset.

– It’s great to tie for a point. It was a good wall game with Tommy (Høiland), which puts me in a good position. Then it was just to put him in goal. That was good.

We have to go back to June 21, 2015 to find the last time he put a ball in the net dressed in dark blue colors. A month later he signed for Rosenborg, where he played until this winter.

Then she packed her things and moved home to Stavanger.

– It was absolutely fantastic and it is really nice to be home again. There is a good group in the closet, with whom I get along well. I thrive very well, says de Lanlay.

Expectations were high when the son returned, but he had to wait until round 20 before the first goal came. Then he just as easily hung an assist in the same sling and was named the best in the field in the VG exchange.

Coach Bjarne Berntsen says he is very satisfied with the winger’s development.

– Show your best player from match to match. He’s had a good injury-free training period, and then he shows that he’s the quality player we hoped to have when we selected him, says Berntsen.

He was recovered with injury

When he returned to the club in January where he graduated as a young man, it was due to an injury that prevented him from returning to the field until matchday 11 of the series.

The match against Strømsgodset was his fifth start to the season.

– It was a long time before it was fully operational as it was not injury free when it arrived. He had a relapse this winter, before he has slowly but surely recovered with very good help from the medical team, Berntsen says.

I’ve had my rounds with injuries so I can’t take much of that anymore, says Lanlay.

It will be a trio

Partly from the bench and partly from the field, he has seen Zymer Bytyqi and Veton Berisha form a dangerous pair at the top. The two so far this season have added 33 goal points.

With Bytyqi on the left wing and Berisha up front, he is on the right wing in the Berntsen 4-3-3 formation that has been shot mostly this season. So there are opportunities for Lanlay’s right wing to get a permanent spot on the team and turn a dangerous duo into a dangerous trio.

– I hope I can be part of that load there. They’ve been in great shape so it’s really nice to see them, Lanlay says.

– All players will start, but it is Bjarne who takes the team out. Each individual must do their best every day in training, we will see later.
