Holland joins the ranks of places where mysterious multi-meter metal columns have recently been found.
Hikers found the mysterious object on Sunday in a swampy landscape in northern Friesland, a spokesman for the Dutch forest service said.
– We know it was probably placed there this weekend, but we don’t know how it got there, says Imke Boerma of the find in the Kiekenberg nature reserve.
– I approached, but there was nothing around him. Thijs de Jong looks as if he was left from above. He thinks it took at least two more people to put it there.
Recently, a similar column several meters high appeared in Utah, United States, but disappeared shortly after being discovered. There have also been discoveries in California, Romania, and on the Isle of Wight in southern England. While these were shiny, the metal column in the Netherlands was dull.
After the first discovery in Utah, some thought the piece of metal might be from space, pointing out that it looked like a black monolith in Stanley Kubrick’s sci-fi movie “2001: A Space Odyssey.” An art collective has later said they were behind it. However, they have not been held responsible for the findings in Europe.
A local announcer in Friesland says it may be a gimmick from a New Year’s club, which is a tradition in the north of the Netherlands, but there should be no such clubs in the area, according to de Jong.
