The Norwegian mountaineer returns after a corona infection. Now talk about the terrifying experience.
Aleksander Aamodt Kilde tested positive for Covid-19 in late October, an experience he would have liked not to have.
He tells Nettavisen that he did not believe the test was correct when he received the message, but after a few days he lost his sense of taste and smell, at the same time becoming weak and having muscle aches.
– That’s what makes it so scary. There are many who walk in with an infection without knowing it and then show symptoms when it is too late. Then it spreads, Kilde tells Nettavisen.
– I was very surprised and a little scared when I managed to get it myself. I have taken precautions and followed the routines of the selection. Now I’m the only one of us who has it. I am very surprised, says the Norwegian mountaineer.
Reported fresh
After a period of isolation, Kilde can soon start training again.
– I will recover on Wednesday, says the 28-year-old.
This despite the fact that you probably still have the virus in your body.
– The virus will be in the body for a while, but it will not be active. So if I test now it will be positive. I have now been in isolation for twelve days and this is the third day without symptoms. I’ll recover tomorrow and then he must be safe, Kilde tells Nettavisen.
However, he is very clear that he should start with a calm workout as he is not sure how the body will react in the future.
– I notice that the body has shrunk a lot. I have been tired and I have slept a lot. I have tried to nourish myself enough. It has been difficult since I have not tried anything that I have eaten. I have only tried to squeeze the healthiest, since it does not taste like anything. It has been a bit special and very strange, but now I am ready to go out again and feel the fresh air. I can’t do without it, says the 28-year-old.

Infected after the opening of the World Cup
It was after the opening of the World Cup in Sölden, Austria, that Kilde was diagnosed with the infection.
Last season’s World Cup winner was routinely tested on October 21 after returning home to Norway after sponsoring assignments in Switzerland. The following Sunday, the Norwegian Ski Association sent out a press release confirming that Aamodt Kilde had tested positive for the coronavirus.
You are not sure where and how it got infected.
– It’s hard to say where I got it, says Kilde.
– All the people I have been in contact with tested negative. It looks like I got it on the way home, but that’s how difficult that virus is here. You don’t know where it comes from, how to get it and how great the consequences are, says the mountaineer.
– Scary
Kilde has not had any serious symptoms, but says he has experienced it as “scary”.
On November 13 is a parallel slalom in Austrian Lech / Zürs and then follows alpine skiing in Finnish Levi on November 21 and 22, and on December 5 and 6 there is a super-G race in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
The Norwegian mountaineer will start training for the moment and then see how he progresses.
– I have a close dialogue with the doctor of the national team and the municipal doctor. The plan is to go step by step. I don’t know how the body will react when it starts again. I’ll take it easy for the first few days because I’ve heard that it can go beyond the lungs and most of the things that have to do with physical exhaustion. I’ll start out carefully and then continue from there, Kilde explains.
Won the world cup
The 28-year-old is considered one of Norway’s best mountaineers and won the World Cup overall in the 2020 season.
Since 2016, he has a total of 18 podiums in the context of the World Cup. Most of them have come in super-G and downhill.
