– The series is number one in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Germany and Austria. It’s actually quite a lot, says director Per-Olav Sørensen.

He is behind the Christmas series about Johanne, the enthusiastic nurse who works hard to get a boyfriend.

On Christmas Eve, the series was number six in the world, but in the days leading up to Christmas it has risen to fifth place. Compete with shows like The Crown, The Queen’s Gambit, and The Ripper.

Thus, the first Norwegian original series on Netflix follows the success of the first season. According to the company, the series was the most watched in Norway in 2019.

– There are many nice things about it. One is that you can do series locally, which travel so well globally. It is very reassuring for us that we work with movies and TV series in Norway, says Sørensen.

– But perhaps the funniest thing is that the stories we tell impact people very well in various parts of the world. Especially in Latin America, we have extremely high numbers, he says.

Messages from around the world

Actress Ida Elise Broch, who plays the role of Johanne, was a recent guest on “Lindmo.”

There he spoke about the comments of fans around the world.

– In some countries, I am seen as an iconic, radical and liberating female figure. And I hadn’t thought about it. For us in Norway, it is the story of a relatively normal girl looking for love. But those are not all places, he said.

Ida Elise Broch’s character, Johanne, is outspoken and open-minded in dating young and old men and women. She says that the series attracts worldwide attention, which we don’t necessarily think about here at home.

Asked to open up on Instagram

The success has led Netflix to ask more people in production to be more active on social media.

– We have been told to open our Instagram accounts a bit. Now I’m not the most popular there, but it also drips a bit on the clock. There are many messages, he says.

What do you think about that?

– The good thing is that people say that the series has become a Christmas tradition and that they have needed it in these strange times. I think people really miss this kind of entertainment, which shows that people hug each other and that they can be happy with each other.

Will not direct new season

But if the streaming service wants a third season, it will be without moss Per-Olav Sørensen as director.

– It has to do with how I want to build my career. This has been very nice, but now I want to do more than romantic comedies, he says.

A Netflix spokesperson writes to NRK that the company is very happy that Home for Christmas season 2 is so well received around the world. They don’t want to say much about a possible sequel.

– Right now we are happy that people can enjoy this season, writes the company.
