– Nerves took me – VG

When Per Gunvald Haugen (45) ended up in the big farmer’s attic in the last ordinary week on “Farmen”, he chose Sindre Nyeng (23) as the first champion.

Haugen saw Nyeng as his biggest competitor, and with good reason.

Throughout the season, Nyeng has shown that he is knowledgeable and physically strong, and has been considered one of the favorites to flee with the victory of “Farmen 2020”.

It is therefore a great shock to many that Nyeng lost the match against Kjetil Kirk (27) on Sunday.

– I immediately thought it was very unfair, says Nyeng to VG.

Nyeng is one of the hardest-working on the farm and even had high hopes of moving into the last week.

– And then they ripped it off because my nerves took me, he says.

There was a lot at stake

Nyeng felt his heart rate increase sharply already after the first ax throw.

– In fact, I’m relatively good at throwing axes and felt like I was in full control. But when I took the ax, it was like taking a piece of jelly.

Growing up, Nyeng played handball at a secondary level, in addition to shooting, and was well used to a competitive situation.

– So, it was a very strange situation that I couldn’t control my nerves. I think friends and family are embarrassed when they see it, he laughs.

Are you ashamed of yourself?

– It’s not embarrassing to break out, but it’s embarrassing not to perform better than me.

He says that there was a lot at stake and that everything fell in this duel.

– Nine times out of ten that he had won at the ax throw, it was also the only time he was going to lose. All credit to Kjetil for knocking me out, Asle and Jostein, he says.

– I had everything to lose

Kjetil Kirk tells VG that he took the match with crushing calm, having emerged victorious from two matches earlier.

– I had nothing to lose, while he had everything to lose. He was the most attractive candidate to win everything and he was the favorite of the city.

Kirk believes this is the biggest shock of the season.

– I never doubted that I could do it, but I was the “underdog”. It was a good combination of luck and skill, perhaps overwhelming luck, he says.

He thinks the other participants were relieved that they didn’t have to wear Nyeng until the last week.

– But I was almost a little disappointed that he succumbed to the pressure. He was my friend, I left early and said I should win it all, he says.

– I did not deserve the final

Nyeng doesn’t hide the fact that it was disappointing to escape just before last week.

– It is perhaps the most bitter place to come, he says and adds:

– But no matter how disappointing it is, I just wasn’t good enough. I’ve always been of the opinion that if he wasn’t good enough to win a match, he didn’t deserve to be in a final.

He takes it as a great compliment that the other participants were happy that he had smoked.

– It would have been great to win, but my life will not end. I’m really sorry I didn’t show up in the last week, he says.

And although Kirk eliminated him from the competition, they are still good friends today. Nyeng says that he invited his friend to a place in the last week.

Steal food

Nyeng says that he is responsible for everything he has done inside the farm, including stealing food inside the farm.

– It is selfish and self-centered to eat food, but you justify it because you work harder. And they all really assumed I did, they told me I would have gotten it if I asked.

And the response has been exclusively positive from friends and family.

– But I think Grandma might well have avoided stealing food, she laughs.

With him back in 2020, he brings with him a host of lessons and a ton of new friends. All in all, he is very happy with what he has achieved in the competition.

– The objective of participating was to challenge myself, show my qualities and learn a lot along the way. And I feel like I’ve made it, he says.
