National team, Lars Lagerbäck | Lagerbäck gave players a clear message after the recession against Serbia

The normally sane Swede used unknown means towards the Romania match after the dream of the European Championship came true on Thursday.

ULLEVAAL STADION (Nettavisen): Because after there were huge expectations for the playoff game against Serbia, it all ended with an anticlimax.

True, the Serbs had to resort to additional innings to beat Norway, but they won 2-1 after wasting countless chances along the way.

At Saturday’s press conference, Lagerbäck clearly stated that he believes it was built to high expectations before settlement, and characterized the expectations as “a castle of air.”

At the players meeting on Saturday before the Romania game, he must have also told the players in clear words to forget about Thursday’s recession.

– Then it makes no sense that they are here

He reveals it to Nettavisen, when asked how he works with the group of players after the energy blast and disappointment on Thursday.

– I spoke shortly before training. I said that the only thing that applies now, since the debate is as it is and both players and I have received a lot of criticism, is to turn everything around, have full concentration and see ourselves in the mirror, he says.

After that, Lagerbäck must have established a clear requirement for the group of players; Either you are fully present and ready to give your all, or it doesn’t make sense to be on the national team.

– I challenged them a bit that we are professionals, and that if there are some who do not want to line up here 100 percent, it makes no sense for them to stay in the group. I raised my voice and my writing was a little higher than what I usually do, because these players are willing to work for it.

– How did the players react when you raised your voice like that?

– I asked if anyone was against or if they agreed. No one answered and most nodded. Not many said yes, but most nodded and then we got up and went to train, says the 72-year-old.

One of those who did not oppose the coach at Saturday’s players’ meeting was Mathias Normann.

Rostov’s profile was Norway’s best outside player on Thursday after he came in for a break, and the 24-year-old insists the atmosphere in the group of Norwegian players is good again after a difficult couple of days.

– I don’t feel very bad mood now. Right after the game and maybe yesterday (Friday, red, note) there was a bit of a depressing atmosphere. But it seems that everyone is motivated again to show that we are good, he tells Nettavisen.

Allows changes to the team.

Lagerbäck, who had to endure questions about his own future on Saturday after Ståle Solbakken is back on the market, saw several players underperforming on Thursday.

Haitam Aleesami, Stefan Johansen and Markus Henriksen all received a lot of criticism for their performances, while Normann did his thing right after entering the field.

During Saturday’s training session at Bislett, André Hansen, Stefan Johansen, Omar Elabdellaoui, Aleesami and Mathias Normann were notable with their absence after training alternately.

Lagerbäck opens that there will be changes in the team on Sunday, when Romania awaits in what is an important match of the Nations League towards the 2022 World Cup.

– It’s completely possible. I can only imagine that some are so physically tired that, at first, they have doubts, but it is difficult to say how many. Then there are also football reasons to consider changing some positions.

Norway – Romania starts at 18.00 You can follow the match in our live center here!
