Røros’s pretty winter motif won the Nexofil contest organized by the stamp magazine El Eco in Spain.
The stamp is made from a painting by Harald Sohlberg. The painting is called “Røros Street, 1903”.
The stamp is designed by Norway Post’s Camilla Kvien Jensen. It was published last year in connection with the 150th anniversary of the painter Sohlberg’s birth.
World champion
A stamp from Peru with a mountains and landscape motif won second place in the 2019 The World’s Most Beautiful Stamp contest.
– What do you think of Norway winning with a Røros stamp?
– It’s always fun to become a world champion. It’s proof that Norway makes great labels that also garner international recognition, says stamp director Halvor Fasting at Norway Post.
Enzo Finger’s miniature sheet and stamp for Queen Maud’s 150th anniversary won second place in the class for combined impression in the same competition.
– This is very cozy and a feather in the cap for both Norwegian labels and designers Camilla Kvien Jensen and Enzo Finger, says Fasting.
Sold 30 million stamps last year
Norway Post sold just under 30 million stamps in Norway last year
– There are a number of stamps that are still sold, although there have been many more, says Fasting. The reason is that Norwegians send fewer letters than before.
Every year there are 25 new stamps with new motifs in different themes.
