The two best tennis players in the world, Novak Djokovic (33) and Rafael Nadal (34) met on Sunday in the Roland-Garros final.

The deal was 56 times the two stars met in a match. Djokovic had the lead with his 29 wins, while Nadal was just behind with 26.

The 19-year-old tennis sensation shed tears after the Roland-Garros triumph

Nadal, nicknamed “the king of gravel”, has swept Roland-Garros, and before the final had not lost a single set. It was also a difficult matter for world number one Novak Djokovic.

Three sets were all it took for the Spaniard to claim his 13th victory at Roland-Garros. With the numbers 6-0, 6-2 and 7-5.

This was Nadal’s 20th Grand Slam title. Therefore, he equals Roger Federer, who has the same number.

– It’s been a tough year. Winning here means everything to me. For me, it’s not about touching Roger today. It’s about me winning Roland-Garros, this tournament means everything to me, says Nadal after the victory.

Nadal is the tennis player who has won the most Roland-Garros times. After Sunday’s win over Djokovic, he can aim for 13 first places in the French Grand Slam tournament.

– I want to send a message to everyone. I hope everyone continues to fight this terrible virus. In the end we will win this match, says Nadal.

The Spaniard gets around 17 million crowns for the victory. Djokovic gets around nine million crowns for second place.

Djokovic could become historic

Djokovic had the opportunity to become historical. But the loss ensured that he did not become the first to win every Grand Slam tournament twice after tennis was professionalized.

Thus, it is Rafael Nadal who has the opportunity to do so if he wins the Australian Open in January 2021.

Nadal showed his best side in the first set. After 45 minutes, the set ended and the Spaniard won 6-0.

Djokovic took the first game in the second set, but the world number one didn’t have much to deal with when Nadal put the turbo on. The second set ended 6-2 for the Spanish.

The third set was even and both followed one another. In the end, it was Nadal who was able to unleash the cheers after winning 7-5.
