The captain of the national handball team, Bjarte Myrhol (38), has undergone shoulder surgery and according to the club he will not be allowed to play any more handball in 2020.

This is confirmed by the Danish club Skjern on its website. Myrhol has also posted the news on his own Instagram story.

Myrhol has had shoulder problems after a training match and multiple injections to his shoulder have not helped. The captain of the national team had to operate and now must cover 12 weeks on the sidelines.

– The shoulder injury has worsened since the training match against Skanderborg, and Bjarte has not been able to shoot properly. When the MRI exam didn’t give an accurate answer, we decided to have surgery, says club doctor Steen Kalms.

He also reports good humor on Myrhol’s part.

The national handball team is scheduled to play the World Cup in Egypt in January. Norway is in Group E with France and Austria. The winner of the North American tie, to be held in Mexico in November, will also enter the group.

Myrhol has had a difficult year. He first stood on the European Championship in January after having a hole in his stomach. This winter, he said that he most likely also had the coronavirus. In 2011, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, but he recovered and returned to the handball court the same year.

The 38-year-old has played 242 games for Norway and scored 761 goals.
