– Moria is a grain of sand in a much greater situation – NRK Urix – Foreign News and Documentaries

– There are others who have greater needs, says researcher Morten Bøås at NUPI about the situation on the Greek island outside Turkey.

Thousands of people have shared the hashtag # 50erikkenok, with the aim of making them believe that Norway should accept more from the Moria camp.

– I think 50 is too little. It does not reflect the humanitarian catastrophe that we now face. This is a figure that does not reflect the need at all, says Marthe Valle, promoter of “Evacuate the children of Moria now.”

Marthe Valle - «Man»

CRITICAL: Artist Marthe Valle has long been involved in the Moria disaster.

The artist notes that Norway received 1,500 during the refugee crisis in 2016, and believes there are a more correct number in the workforce.

– Where do you get 1500?

– You think of a number, you are absolutely right, but that is why it is important. There are numbers, but also people. There are many municipalities that claim to have the capacity to settle because of the crown. And we have asylum reception centers that are empty, says Une Bastholm, party leader in the Green Party.

Africa researcher Bøås asks Norwegians to look a little further.

– The question is whether we should not look up. Those of Moria are a grain of sand in a situation much greater than 50-60 million. We have to ask ourselves how we should ensure a fairer system of who should receive protection in Europe, says Bøås.

During the NRK debate on Thursday night, the researcher was asked to rank the disorders where they were worst. Bøås points out the border areas around Niger, Nigeria and Mali where people are fleeing Boko Haram, among other places.

– We always end up with numbers with many symbols on each side, without going any further. This debate will be repeated, you end up with the closing of borders or against more. It doesn’t make sense, we have to do both. 50 is good for those who come here, but in the big picture there is nothing, says Bøås.

He believes that Moria should not be at the expense of Norway’s involvement in other parts of the world.

Holiday country Greece

Progress Party parliamentary representative Jon Engen-Helgheim had a well-known party style, concerned that Norway should help people in need where they are.

– No one mentions that we have taken 700 from Greece before. It got better for very few people. The rest were left as losers, and the worst thing is the signal that it gives that you just have to come to Greece and that they will hire you. Then more people will be drawn into suffering and anguish, Engen-Helgheim says.

The government will accept Syrian families with young children from Moria.

Researcher Bøås believes that some refugees become extremely visible

– Naturally, because the Morians are in a country that Norwegians have a good relationship with through holidays and other things, and then there are many others who are totally invisible, says Bøås.

– I completely disagree with the populist angle that television images make us react to. We have been fighting for years to reach politicians. We are health workers who see the direct consequences, says Valle.
