Moni Viking’s owner, Jan Lyng from Levanger in Trøndelag, is intoxicated after the horse he has raised is ready for the world’s toughest trotting race, the Prix d’Amérique.

– I bought the dam, selected the stallion and made the colt. I’ve trained it myself, and being a part of this game is completely sick.

Moni Viking qualified after a great effort in a race in Paris on Sunday.

I followed the race through the TV screen

Jan Lyng followed the race via television screen at his home in Levanger and will go out to the stables to celebrate with the other horses when NRK makes contact.

– Here are people who last a lifetime and who are never close to owning a horse like that. It is absolutely amazing that it works. This means everything, says Lyng.

Moni Viking proved once again that he can match the best long distance horses in the world. He has won two major international races earlier this year and has also set a world record.

This past Sunday in January, he is ready for the Prix d’Amérique, which takes place in Vincennes, the world’s largest jogging track outside Paris. The winner will receive about 5 million crowns.

Special

– This is the race that everyone who jogs will win.

That’s what Truls Pedersen, editor of Trav og galloppnytt, TGN says.

– That there is a Levanger horse, who was born and raised there and will try to fight for the most generous prize, is very special, says Pedersen.

No Norwegian horse has ever won this race before. Looking Superb, owned by Kolbjørn Selmer from Trøndelag, came in second place two years ago.

– The people of Trøndelag have distinguished themselves all the way and have been one of the best horses we have ever owned.

New era

Shan Rags and Tamine Sandy are remembered by many. Now Pedersen believes that it is time for a new era.

– If Moni Viking manages to win in Paris in January, it is a sensation!

So far, Moni Viking has raised just over 6 million crowns and, according to owner Jan Lyng, they hope to once again meet the world’s elite among trotting horses.

– The plan is, of course, to win the Prix d’Amérique. Then we have to beat Face Time Bourbon, the Italian horse that won today and is now considered the best trotting horse in the world, says the proud owner.

– I have built and built Moni Viking on the village roads here at Okkenhaug in Levanger. Those we compete against have completely different conditions, so this is unique, says Lyng.

– This shows that it is possible to be successful in a bonkaill in Levanger.
