Molde boss congratulates Glimt with gold – VG

AKER STADION (VG) (MFK-KBK 2–2) Molde was one minute away from being dethroned as league champion, but a run by Fredrik Aursnes (24) postponed Bodø / Glimt’s gold celebration. Coach Erling Moe still hands the Northerners the gold.

As the clock here at Aker Stadium struck 90 minutes, Bodø / Glimt appeared to be crowned league champions on Sunday night. Because with the defeat of Molde, the Romsdalers would no longer have the theoretical opportunity to regain leadership.

But Aursnes, 24, refused to allow that to happen. With a strong ankle kick from about 16 meters, the midfield star tied at 2-2.

In parallel, Bodø / Glimt crushed Aalesund jumbo table. With six league rounds remaining, Molde is 18 points behind and has a much worse goal difference than the Northerners. That Erling Moe’s men managed to postpone his golden party doesn’t mean much to the boss himself.

– No, basically it doesn’t. It may be fun for them to solve it against Rosenborg next time, but not for us. Just congratulate them on that. Then we have other “fights” over what’s left, Moe tells VG.

– So you congratulate Glimt with the gold now?

– Yes, we can do that.

Moe got desperate

Etzaz Hussain (27) headed Molde ahead in the 12th minute, but only 11 minutes later Amahl Pellegrino (30) and Faris Pemi (30) turned the game around with their respective goals.

Molde was the dominant team throughout the game, but two personal mistakes cost the team all the points.

First, Henry Wingo dropped the mark on Pellegrino who easily made it 1-1. Later, Sheriff Sinyan fell completely asleep on a post in Liridon Kalludra. He sensed Pemi jerk off Molde’s plug and stabbed at 1-2.

On the sidelines, Moe screamed in despair.

– I think we are off to a very good start. We drove them well and got 1-0, but then it’s a shame that we fall asleep like we do in both setbacks. We solve our work tasks poorly both in advance and when jobs arrive. We don’t take them out and we’re not old enough. That is what helps us to destroy the bigger picture, but based on how close and tough the match program has been, I think we hold the distance well, says the head of Moldes.

Among other things, he was happy that the team had the most possession. In the end, romsdalingene ended up having the ball 60 percent of the time.

The rescue

However, on an average Molde day where Kristiansund defended well in a tight 4-5-1 formation, Aursnes finally found an opening.

The midfielder had time to charge with his shooting foot and took the opportunity to finish the 2-2 in the back.

– It was good to get a score and not lose the game. “We are hopeful towards the end to take all three points, but it was good,” Aursnes tells VG.

– Does it mean anything to postpone Glimt’s golden party?

– Gold will probably end up in Bodø this year anyway. It’s the same for us when it happens. We just have to focus on ourselves, win games and secure second place.

– How would you describe your season this year compared to last year when you won the series?

– It was pretty stable last year. We didn’t do any slams and we won steadily. This year has been more of ups and downs. We had a really bad period a month ago, when we were a few games without winning. Now we’ve got back on a good track in the last month. But today it was difficult not to win, says Aursnes.

Proud boss of KBK

After Rosenborg lost to Viking in Stavanger, Molde retained second place in the Eliteserien with a two-point punt for Trøndelag. KBK remains in sixth place.

– There is respect for the fight that we are carrying out today. When we finish as soon as we do, it is very easy to have too much respect for the opponent we are up against today, but we turn it into a positive, says coach Christian Michelsen to VG, before continuing:

– We show strength of character. There is a mentality in this gang: we never give up. We fought our way through the fight, turning it around and holding on almost to the end. Molde is good in the end and can put pressure on us, but I’m still proud of the way we implemented it. Bendik Bye has a great 2-1 chance for us. If you put it on, the fight is over.

One who put one of his opportunities is the fiery Pellegrino. The top scorer in the elite series scored the 21st goal of the season when it drew 1-1. Still, the victory slipped right before the end.

– It’s very bitter. That is a good ending. We play a perfect away game for a large part of the game. I feel like we’re hanging out after the first quarter. The last 10 minutes enter our box, but it is not dangerous. When you have that chance from 16 meters, you know it’s dangerous at least seven times out of 10, Pellegrino tells VG.

Odd Iversen holds the record for the most goals in a season since the first division became a division in 1963. The Trøndelag player entered 30 times in 1968. Pellegrino’s ambition is to beat the fifth top scorer on the list, Vidar Örn Kjartansson. In 2015, the Icelander scored a total of 25 goals. Pellegrino has six rounds left to score as many or more.
