The Øystein Stangeland ski and climbing profile (51) has been missing since Saturday 16 January.

Her partner reported her missing when she did not return as agreed after a ski trip in the Skittentind area of ​​Kattfjordeidet in Tromsø.

There have been several searches in the area, but it has been a great challenge due to bad weather and the danger of avalanches. On January 19, it was considered that there was no hope of finding the person alive. Therefore, the action to search for the presumed dead was redefined.

On Wednesday, one person was found dead in an avalanche in the area. Everything indicates that it is Øystein Stangeland who has been found since there are no other missing in the area.

The Troms Police District writes the following in a press release:

– The deceased has not been formally identified, but the police assume that the missing Øystein Stangeland has been found dead. Family members have been informed.

At most, 30 to 40 people have participated in the search for Kvaløya. Among other things, teams from the Red Cross, Norwegian People’s Aid, Norwegian Rescue Dogs, the Norwegian Radio Relay League, Civil Defense, the police and medical personnel have participated.

They have contributed significant resources to the search operation. Police thank both volunteers and emergency officers for the effort, police report.

Remembered by fellow hikers

In 2008, Øystein Stangeland took part in an expedition on the world’s second highest mountain K2. There she was with Lars Nessa, Cecilie Skog, and her husband Rolf Bae. Bae was captured by an iceberg and died.

Shortly after it was announced that Øystein Stangeland was presumed dead on Kvaløya, Stein P. Aasheim wrote the following on Facebook:
