MasterCard and Visa break cooperation with Pornhub after discovering illegal content on the website.
The New York Times reports.
On Monday, MasterCard began investigating the world’s largest pornography site, following accusations that they allow the sharing of abuse videos. Now they are taking action and breaking the collaboration.
This week’s New York Times revealed objectionable conditions on the pornography website. In the article, several young women report that videos of them have been shared on Pornhub, without their knowledge and will. Several of the videos are to show women when they are under the age of sexual consent and are therefore considered abusive material.
MasterCard itself said that the investigation has confirmed violations of its standards and that they do not support illegal content, according to the New York Times. The breach thus caused the company to terminate its collaboration with the website.
The VISA credit card company also temporarily suspends cooperation.
“Following allegations of illegal content, VISA is suspending the use of our cards on Pornhub. We are doing this while waiting for our ongoing investigation to be completed,” he writes. VisaNews.
Reject the accusations
Pornhub is the largest porn website in the world and is owned by the Canadian company Mindgeek. They themselves have denied all the accusations.
“Any claim that we allow videos depicting child sexual abuse is irresponsible and manifestly false,” the website wrote in a statement to the New York Times.
Pornhub has had bad weather since the article and announced this week that they are tightening the guidelines.
Billionaire Bill Ackman is gone and he also encouraged the American Express credit card company to do like MasterCard and VISA.
Guidelines update
The porn site only allows verified users to upload videos and the feature has been stopped for all users. The verification process will start next year.
They have also removed the ability to download videos, which previously made deleted footage easily reappear.
“Today we are taking great steps to further protect our society,” they wrote on the website Tuesday.
Pornhub has 3.5 billion views per month, from all over the world. This spring, Save the Children published a report on the sexual habits of young people.
Many girls were revealed to have engaged in sexual acts that they or their partner have seen in pornography, even though they experienced it as borderline, painful, or offensive.
