Marie Madeleine Larsen, Per Sandberg | This woman appeared at the bar

When the woman appeared in Per Sandberg’s pub for the second time, she understood what had to happen.

On Tuesday, the woman convicted of fraud appeared at Sandberg’s own pub, Grand Bar in Halden. There she expressed that she was a big fan of Per Sandberg and that she would like to speak with him.

Unprepared, Sandberg went down to the bar to talk to what turned out to be one of the biggest scammers in the Nordic region: Marie Madeleine Larsen (62).

– I tend to be polite and try to greet everyone who wants to. When I came downstairs and started talking to her, there was no way she was a huge fan of me. She even had to send flowers, Sandberg tells Nettavisen.

The case, on the other hand, was going to take a real turn when Larsen appeared again on Tuesday.

“Millionaires offered”

– Today I received a new phone call that he had come with flowers and he wanted to talk to me more. When I went down to the pub the second time, it completely took off, there were no limits. She claimed that she had just received an inheritance of 22 million crowns and obviously I should receive some of that. His attorney was going to print a gift certificate, and I even received an attorney business card from an agency in Halden, Sandberg continues.

When the former politician returned home, he began to think about who this woman could be. She had received an e-mail address that seemed completely strange, with only one name; “Mary”.

– After googling a bit for “Maria”, there were countless cases about “The biggest scammers in the Nordic region”. So I immediately called the waiter and asked him to stop her. I went back and started chatting, and then she wanted me to take her to Fredrikstad as she was terminally ill. Her pelvis was also broken, so she had two crutches and she looked severely reduced, Sandberg says.

But shortly after Larsen, who has operated under countless names, asked Sandberg to fix a hotel room for him, the pub had an idea.

– I asked the waiter to take a picture of us. And then I revealed it. I asked her if she had any middle names and got confirmation that it was “Madeleine.” When I asked her what last name she used today, she understood. “I may have to go now,” she said and quietly left, Sandberg chuckling.

By warning

He’s not sure himself what the serial scammer was trying to defraud, other than perhaps a hotel stay.

“I can’t believe it was anything other than getting a trip or a hotel stay, but at least we got a big bouquet of flowers with a card from her,” says Sandberg.

He says he considered calling the police, as Larsen’s status is described as “paroled” on Wikipedia.

– But I have no basis to claim or know anything about it. Now, at least, I’ve warned the people of Halden about her, and I’ve heard of several who have seen her in town, Sandberg says.

The pub owner himself believes that Larsen’s attempt to deceive him is a “disco boom.”

– They have deceived me so many times that they can no longer deceive me, jokes.

– 112 criminal offenses

In recent weeks, Larsen has also been seen on Vestfold and Telemark. When the 62-year-old woman walked into Brotorvet in Stathelle a month ago, the store staff immediately detained her, Telemarksavisa writes.

By then, he had already made a name for himself in Sandefjord, when he tried to enter the Sandefjord Medical Center (SMS).

Most recently, last weekend, the scammer was heading to Sarpsborg. Here he managed to trick a local resident into posting for a hotel room. However, the police did not implement any measures, writes Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad.

Larsen has changed her name several times, but the surname on the population register is Marie Madeleine Steen.

She has been involved in various forms of fraud in Scandinavia since the early 1990s and has been convicted several times.

In 2018, VG published a series of articles on “the woman with the suitcase”, in which it is stated that Larsen / Steen has been convicted of 112 crimes.
