The Liverpool legend believes it is time for United to start making smarter decisions when it comes to replacements at the club.

Since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, several changes have been made at Manchester United. It can be said that some have been successful, while it can be said that most have been the opposite.

In a separate Telegraph column on Friday, Jamie Carragher criticizes various decisions that have been made within the club in recent years.

– Suffers from short-term and populist decisions.

The former Liverpool stopper is already in the headline of his column with a clear message to Manchester United:

– They must start making unpopular decisions, Carragher writes, before the 42-year-old goes into more detail about what he thinks.

– Manchester United still suffer from a series of short-term populist decisions that have backfired. They used to do the opposite. United was once an organization strong enough to withstand big decisions, convinced that it would benefit them in the long run.

Carragher believes Ferguson was an expert on precisely that, and is referring to his sales from former big players like Jaap Stam, Paul Ince, Mark Hughes and Roy Keane.

Of the bad decisions made by the club, Carragher points to the dismissal of David Moyes in April 2014, a month before the end of the season. He claims that it was just about satisfying the needs and wants of fans. Who then chose to hire Louis Van Gaal, who cannot be said to be successful at the club, believes he showed weak leadership qualities on the part of the board.

– Simple and expensive options.

Carragher further notes that the board has made poor decisions regarding player logistics. The signing of Alexis Sánchez, with the mega salary. The same goes for David De Gea’s new contract, which he got when Real Madrid became interested in the last chance. In addition, he mentions Paul Pogba, who can also be said to have obtained a lucrative contract with the Red Devils, after being strongly linked to the men of Zinedine Zidane.

According to The Mirror, De Gea had a weekly salary in 2019 of NOK 4.3 million, and Pogba a weekly salary of NOK 3.3 million.

– I categorize all the decisions they have made in terms of simple, often expensive alternatives, and that to satisfy temporary dissatisfaction, writes Carragher.

Furthermore, the Sky Sports expert is unsure whether Solskjær and United should go for Jadon Sancho. Both because of the rigid price, and because it indicates that the money must be spent in another layer.

– Against Palace, his main problem was defense. The team structure was poor, as was individual performance.

As is well known, United lost the game after 1-3 to Crystal Palace, but on Saturday Solskjær’s men can correct some of the impression they left in that game when they face Brighton.
