Guardiola’s Manchester City emerged victorious from the duel against Arteta and Arsenal after a goal from Raheem Sterling.

MANCHESTER CITY – ARSENAL 1-0:

Manchester City defeated Arsenal in what was an intense managerial duel between Pep Guardiola and his former assistant Mikel Arteta.

Raheem Sterling won the match with his only goal, despite several great opportunities for both teams.

– Gets a little sweaty

In TV2’s Premier League studio, Brede Hangeland was excited during the break by the tactical level of the two coaches during the deal.

“There’s such a high level of tactics to what they do here that you get a little sweaty when you look at it,” Hangeland said.

– It’s football chess that I think was on a whole new level when it comes to two managers standing up, thinking, looking at and using their farmers to the best of their ability, he continued.

Simon Stone on BBC Sport also made it clear that both teams posed with a slightly different tactic than is possibly common for them.

– With the two coaches, you are likely to see some unusual tactical moves tonight. So far, Willian has played as a center forward, Sterling as a deep central midfielder. The city alternates between four and three behind depending on whether they defend or attack, Stone said.

After a relatively uneventful start to the match, it would be half a lap before the match’s first big chance – and scoring – was a done deal. Riyadh Mahrez found Sergio Agüero with a perfect weighted pass, who passed the ball to Phil Foden, who tried. Bernd Leno saved the 20-year-old’s shot, but on the return came Sterling, who sent the light blues in the lead.

– It is Mahrez’s pass that opens this game. It’s a fantastic weighted pass for Sergio Aguero, Sky Sports expert Gary Neville said after the score.

After the score, the landscape of the match changed completely and both teams had several good opportunities to put the match of the match before the break signal went out.

Mahrez had a good double chance first, before Foden was played alone with Leno, but the last German chance was brilliant in the Arsenal cage. Then Bakuyo Saka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang came very close to equalizing for the visiting team with their respective chances, but Ederson saved masterfully.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, they never got the tie and thus Manchester City won the deal 1-0.
