Liverpool took the lead three times, but each time Leeds struck back. When Mohamed Salah scored his third of the match, the visitors did not respond.
LIVERPOOL – LEEDS 4-3:
Liverpool and Leeds both cut starting blocks in the Premier League opener on Saturday night and before 35 minutes was played we had scored five goals at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah scored two for the hosts, while Virgil van Dijk stabbed home a corner. Jack Harrisson and Patrick Bamford found the net for the visiting team.
TV Profile 2: – You will be a bit surprised
It wasn’t just the many scores that impressed. There was also tremendous pace and intensity on both teams.
In TV studio 2, the panel sat down and was completely taken aback by what they had seen.
– Absolutely fantastic soccer game, said expert Brede Hangeland
– You will be a bit surprised, said program director Jan-Henrik Børslid.
Erik Thorstvedt had to admit that he, too, was shocked.
– Yes, me and. It’s weird to be hit by something that is completely… but that’s the way it was here. When you say surprised, people may think it was a negative, but it was exclusively positive. What happened out there was a lot of fun.
Klopp: – I loved it
In the second half there were not as many goals, but the emotion was still at its peak. First, Leeds leveled with Mateusz Klich again and then in the rear Liverpool returned to score a penalty. Once again, Salah scored and the Egyptian was able to cheer on the hat trick.
– For a fight. For a rival and for a performance of both teams. This was a real show and I loved it. It is not common to see so many goals in a match and there is room for improvement in the way we defend ourselves, but it is not uncommon in the first match. Several of our players have also been in action recently with the national team, Klopp told Sky Sports after the game.
– The rivals forced us to make mistakes, but we can do better and we will do better. We use our quality to create problems for them and. We were able to score more and in the end it was decided to set pieces and that’s fine for me, said the German.
Early penalty
The first half at Anfield was fast-paced and, especially, the first 15 minutes were characterized by enormous intensity from both teams.
Liverpool went ahead after a few minutes. Newcomer Robin Koch had the ball in hand as Mohamed Salah turned inside the box and fired and the referee pointed to the chalk mark. Salah himself took the penalty and distributed it in cash in goal.

However, the newly promoted Leeds should give the hosts a match and after 12 minutes it was a draw. Jack Harrison shot from the edge and hit 1-1.
The visitors also had a ball in the net just before the tie, but Helder Costa’s goal after nine minutes of play was disallowed for a clear offside.
In the 16th minute, Liverpool’s Sadio Mané fell dramatically outside the penalty area, but the referee was unimpressed and cautioned him for diving.
Wrong canon
A few minutes later it was still 2-1. Virgil van Dijk was left alone in the area after a corner from Andy Robertson and the stopper put the ball into the goal.
After half an hour came the second draw of the night. Patrick Bamford took advantage of a van Dijk error and shot through goalkeeper Alisson Becker and into the net.
However, the jubilation of Leeds was to be short-lived. A few minutes later the ball landed on a well-placed Salah and the Egyptian shot to the left and the ball flew to the crossbar.

In the last minutes of the first half everything calmed down a bit, although Liverpool’s back rows seemed a bit “shaky” on a couple of occasions. That said, the visitors’ defensive play wasn’t that great for the first 45 minutes, either.
New settlement
The second half started with a good chance for Georginio Wijnaldum after a good preparation from Roberto Firmino, while Illan Meslier of Leeds saved impressively.
After 58 minutes, the ball was in the area, but again we got a cancellation. Harrison ran free and threw the ball over Allison. Trent Alexander- Arnold followed the ball and should walk away, but he nodded at his own net. The Liverpool defender was probably quite relieved when he heard the referee’s whistle a few seconds later.
Leeds was dangerous throughout and offensive back Stuart Dallas had a useful opportunity, but Allison Becker quickly went down and was saved.

And another settlement was to come. After 66 minutes, Helder Costa sent the corner kick to the right of Mateusz Klich, who headed hard over the goalkeeper.
Penalty number two
Liverpool began the search for a winning goal and Virgil van Dijk hit the ball on goal in the 79th minute. Judge Michael Oliver, however, saw something to blow about. From the replay on television, it was not so easy to see what the judge reacted to.
In the 86th minute, Firmino had a great opportunity to put his team ahead, but his fierce shot from the left wing skimmed the strain of the post.
In the next corner, Fabinho picked up the ball after a duel and when he was about to carry it forward, they threw it to the ground. Punish!
Again, Mohamed Salah was saved from the chalk and it was 4-3 for the hosts.
That was the end result.
