Liverpool, Premier League rumors | Daily Mail: VAR judge David Coote did not know he could expel Pickford

He must have thought that the offside decision canceled Virgil van Dijk’s entry.

The situation before the break in the Meryseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool remains hotly debated, after Virgil van Dijk tore his cruciate ligament as a result of a scare tackle from Jordan Pickford.

Liverpool’s Dutch midfielder first sneaked into the back post, before being literally injured by the Everton goalkeeper.

However, there was never a penalty kick in the situation, as video footage showed Van Dijk was marginally offside prior to the situation.

The referee problem could still have given Pickford a red card for the back inning, but the England goalkeeper was allowed to continue playing without consequence.

In hindsight, it turned out that the VAR room didn’t even consider whether Pickford should show up off the field, and now the Daily Mail writes that the referee team on the VAR bus completely forgot the rule that they can assess a situation even after an offside.

The tabloid writes that VAR judge David Coote, who incidentally was in action as head judge Monday, thought the offside decision nullified what happened after the situation.

While Van Dijk in all likelihood loses the entire season for Liverpool, Everton managed to take a point after 2-2 at Goodison Park.

The Daily Mail writes that sources in Liverpool say the club believes Coote was too distracted with offside and therefore did not look at a possible red card at Pickford.

However, it is said that referee Mike Riley spoke to the red dresses and claimed that the referee team assessed the situation to the point that a red card should not be given.

Smoking the cruciate ligament

Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah scored Liverpool’s goals in the game against Everton, but Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin ensured there was a point for each team on Sunday.

The local deal was the best, and in overtime Everton’s Richarlison was also sent off after tackling Thiago Alcantara.

The situation between Pickford and van Dijk, however, became the big topic of conversation after the game, and on Sunday came the disappointing message from the Liverpool field that the midfielder had suffered a serious cruciate injury.

The entry has sparked strong reactions and Sky Sports expert Graeme Souness was early to announce that Pickford should have been sent off.

– That was not an entrance, it was an assault, he said after the game.

Souness also reacts strongly to the fact that the VAR did not intervene and expelled Pickford.

– It shouldn’t be possible with the time they dedicate and the technology they have.

Connected police

Several Liverpool fans will also be furious after the club’s biggest player appears to lose the rest of the season.

However, there are some who have crossed the line and are coming straight against Pickford.

The Mirror writes that police are now investigating some of the hate speech that is said to have been directed at the Everton goalkeeper as well as Richarlison.

A police spokesman says they are now investigating a series of Twitter messages directed at the two Everton players.

– The language used in these Twitter messages is totally unacceptable and we take it very seriously. Those who use the Internet to attack others and who come up with threats or hate crimes do not follow the law, police say.

The spokesperson further says that investigators are now working to identify the people who have made such Twitter messages and that will have consequences.
