However, a dissatisfied Deco is said to have been involved in the overthrow of a giant trade for Lionel Messi.
This is revealed by the guru of transition Gianluca Di Marzio in a new book, reproduced by Sky Sports, among others.
The Italian is known as one of those who knows the transition market best, and in his new book Grand Hotel Calciomercato writes about what he describes as “the biggest unknown story in the transition market.”
This is Lionel Messi, who must have been very close to a transfer to Chelsea and José Mourinho in 2014.
Di Marzio writes that the first contact between Messi and the London club is said to have occurred while the Argentine was in the middle of a tax fraud scandal in Spain.
The 33-year-old came into the hands of Spanish authorities after being accused of evading taxes, and Chelsea appeared to be taking advantage of the situation.
Messi is said to have consulted with several of his representatives, including former Chelsea player Deco, before a FaceTime meeting was arranged between him and then-coach José Mourinho.
There, Mourinho is said to have used all his rhetorical skills and convinced Messi to go to Stamford Bridge.
The Portuguese is said to have also recently been in a physical meeting with various Messi representatives.

Chelsea are said to have been willing to pay the € 250 million buyout clause for Messi in 2014, and the parties have also agreed on personal terms.
However, Deco, who started making a living as an agent after putting his football boots on the shelf, is said to have stayed out of the dance, and has become fatal to Chelsea.
Earlier that summer, Cesc Fabregas had left Barcelona for Chelsea, and the midfielder is said to have told Mourinho, ecstatic, that Messi was interested in a transfer.
When Mourinho told the veteran midfielder that he had already spoken to Messi, Fabregas relayed the message to Deco that he shouldn’t have been happy to be left out.
The Portuguese went directly to Jorge Horacio, Messi’s father and closest representative, who is said to have been furious that his son had been in talks with Mourinho without his consent.
When Horacio confronted Messi with the talks, it is said that the Barcelona star denied everything and the transition went to the sink.
However, this is not the first time that Messi has disconnected from Barcelona.
As recently as this summer, I wanted to leave the club. The superstar is said to be very unhappy with the club’s president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, but ultimately decided to stay at the club.
In an interview with Goal.com, the Argentine said the following:
– I was not happy and wanted to go. They have not allowed me in any way, and I will stay in Barcelona, so as not to end up in a legal dispute with the club. The management of the club with Bartomeu (president of Barcelona) is a disaster.
After much deliberation, it became clear on September 4 that the Argentine superstar would continue at the club.
