Landslide at Gjerdrum, Gjerdrum | He wanted to illuminate the landslide area, but police said no:

Several companies set out to offer the most powerful projectors in Europe and the complete equipment for the rescue operation.

On the first day of New Years, the search operation in Gjerdrum ended due to poor lighting conditions. Since the landslide occurred on December 30, several companies have come together to offer some of the most powerful lamps in the world for the rescue operation.

Already the first night after the landslide, Terje Røkke was asked to contribute the light. His company Camera in Motion has two lamps that provide a total brightness of 150,000 watts. It is enough to illuminate the entire landslide area at night.

– Lamps can create daylight conditions throughout the night. Many people think of dots when they hear about light, but this spreads the light over 105 degrees – you get uniform light over a huge area, says Røkke.

Together with the Specter company in Lillestrøm and the film producer Simen Bang-Hansen, Røkke has tried to offer the projectors for the rescue operation. But the police have not attacked:

“All inquiries we receive are taken into account and we are contacted as appropriate,” writes Eastern Police District Chief of Staff Jan E Vind Myklatun in an email from the Chief Communications Advisor. Marianne Nordengen.

– It could light up 24 hours

– I do not want to criticize in any way the formidable work that is now being done in Gjerdrum. But when I saw the news that the action was interrupted by the onset of darkness, I thought it should not be necessary, when we have this equipment. I have had these lamps for over 17 years and have used them in many film and television recordings so I know what they are for, Røkke tells Nettavisen.

Lamps are used, among other things, to create daylight in dark light conditions during filming. They are used, for example, in “Kampen om Tungtvannet” and X-Games in Hafjell.

Several companies, such as Oslo Liftutleie and Infratek, are now contracted and have prepared a complete and free offer of the equipment, including the crew to operate it:

– We can be ready in four hours, says film producer Simen Bang-Hansen, general manager of production company Rollo Tomasi AS, to Nettavisen.

I called the police on Wednesday night

Geir K. Johansen is Chairman of the Board and CTO of Specter, a Lillestrøm based company offering expertise in sound and light. He has been in contact with Røkke since the landslide and has been in contact with the management of the rescue operation through connections, following a request for equipment.

– I spoke to the duty officer at the operations center in the East Police District on Wednesday night and told him that we could offer everything from small to very large headlights.

He senses that it was noticed, but heard no more from the police after that, but has ensured that the information has come to light. Johansen claims that he was informed by Sunday morning that task management had been informed of the offer.

– I have received an SMS in which they appreciate the offer and make a continuous evaluation, says Johansen.

Has everything arranged and ready

The lamps require a huge amount of energy and therefore a unit is already ready near the landslide area. The largest lamp, at 100,000 watts, has a 20-foot long halogen bulb. It can be lifted 57 meters with the largest lift in Oslo Liftutleie.

– Then there will be natural light in the whole area, says Simen Bang-Hansen.

Talk about a frustrating attempt to get there. On Saturday afternoon he was in contact with the Oslo Police Chamber, which transferred him to the Eastern Police District, but was not allowed to speak to anyone there.

– I sat for a long time waiting for Øst to answer – then I was sent back to the Oslo Police Department. They then said they had spoken to the Eastern Police District and asked for an email. I stressed that this should be urgent. Then I got an email address to explain what it could offer. I told them they could get all of this for free.

Urgent request sent

At 3:16 PM on Saturday afternoon, Bang-Hansen sent an email to the Eastern Police District with the caption “URGENT! Request for technical assistance with LYS på Gjerdrum ». No one has contacted after that.

– The equipment has already been removed from storage to trucks. I said we could make it shine in Gjerdrum in four hours. The equipment was in stock, but has now been released on trucks. There are three lamps, one of 100,000 and two of 25,000 watts. There is no stronger light in Europe, says Bang-Hansen.

Simen Bang-Hansen thinks it’s odd that task management didn’t take advantage of the offer and contacted:

– You have reached the top where there are clear lights waiting. If they had said yes right away, they could have had daylight all day; therefore we have offered equipment for many hundreds of thousands of crowns free to which they have not responded.

– we have what we need

The police receive many inquiries from individuals, companies and organizations who want to help with equipment and aid, writes the Eastern Police District Chief of Staff Jan E Vind Myklatun in an email to Nettavisen.

– We greatly appreciate that many want to contribute. The police largely have access to the equipment we need and seize what we may need. All inquiries we receive are considered and we get in touch as relevant, write.

Our question about what the assessment was after Johansen approached the Eastern Police District on Wednesday night has no specific answer:

– Due to the number of inquiries and the intensity of the work, unfortunately we cannot give feedback to everyone.
