Klæbo drops the World Cup throughout the year: – Says stop:

[ad_1]

Klæbo will only be relevant again for the Tour de Ski race on January 1. This means that you will not attend the next World Cup races in Davos on December 12-13 and in Dresden on December 19-20.

– I’ve been feeling this for a while. It started in connection with the World Cup final last season. The uncertainty intensified even more during our stay at Ruka. Before we left, it seemed safer than the situation in Finland, says Johannes Høsflot Klæbo.

– I feel that skiing and competitions are not very important in relation to the pandemic that is now devastating the whole world. Everyone has to do their part, and what they think is right. This is important and it is the right thing to do for me, Klæbo continues.

Klæbo finished second in the sprint at the opening of the World Cup in Ruka. He followed up with a superior victory in the 15-kilometer classic and won Ruka’s triple overall after reaching the finish line first during the start of Sunday’s hunt.

– Completely wrong to travel

After it became clear that a Russian combined runner was allowed to walk through Ruka’s stadium with coronavirus in the body, the Norwegian star reacted strongly. Explain the reason for leaving the race by saying that you will not be exposed to such a risk of infection in the future.

– I feel that it is completely wrong to travel to international destinations in these times. It involves contact with many people. Includes planes, buses, airports and more. I don’t want to expose myself to this. For me, it will be completely wrong. I accept the consequences of that and I am withdrawing this time, Klæbo says in the press release.

He is back in Trondheim after the opening of the World Cup this weekend and claims that he will most likely run Saturday’s race in the Norwegian Cup in Lillehammer.

– awake

Sprint coach Arild Monsen says the cross country team needs to know what it’s like to be in total quarantine, which was the case when national team coach Eirik Myhr Nossum first tested positive for the crown, before that the next test was negative.

– We were locked up for a day and a half. What we learned through it, and what kind of consequences it has, has given us an even closer wake-up call on what this is. I fully understand the choice of Klæbo. It’s voluntary if you want to participate, Monsen tells Dagbladet.

Monsen understands that athletes fear the consequences of infection within the team.

– I feel that fear. So we joked about what it would be like to spend Christmas in a small gray hotel in Dresden, Germany, alone for 10 days. Dresden stood out because Christmas is a holiday for family and friends, Monsen says.

The sprint coach had a dialogue with the whole team on the subject of the trip home from Ruka yesterday. They were rarely seen in Kuusamo as a result of infection control.

Monsen says they are working on what the Norwegian Ski Federation will do now.

– It won’t be clear until tomorrow. It’s on my table. I’ve been involved in the process from the beginning, says Monsen.

World Cup betting

Klæbo no longer wants to take the risk of traveling with the World Cup circus. In the future, he will train at home in Trondheim and in Skeikampen. The objective is still the World Cup in February.

– I am betting on the World Cup in Oberstdorf, where I have the ambition to perform at my best. It will be the great sporting objective of the season. Now I will train well towards that goal, then we will see what the covid-19 situation is like when that time comes. I’ll do a new evaluation before then, he says.

The World Cup in Oberstdorf starts on February 23 and lasts until March 7.
