On September 25, King Harald (83) was admitted to the Rikshospitalet in Oslo due to heavy breathing. It was ruled out early that the king was affected by the coronavirus and was examined for respiratory problems.
Since then, King Harald has been hospitalized and on sick leave from his royal duties, meaning that Crown Prince Haakon (47) has taken over the king’s job duties.
On Monday afternoon, NTB reported that King Harald was released from the hospital. However, they had not received confirmation from the Palace, instead referring to photos of King Harald sitting in the back seat of a black car that was observed leaving Rikshospitalet on Monday.
Shortly after NTB announced that King Harald had been sacked, the castle itself confirmed that this was true in a new press release on its website.
– His Majesty the King has been discharged from the Rikshospitalet, the press release states.
The castle further reports that the hospital is continuing the investigation and notes that King Harald is still on sick leave until October 4.
Sonja’s visit
On the day the king was admitted to the hospital, he should have visited Maihaugen in Lillehammer together with Queen Sonja (83), where they were scheduled to visit the queen’s childhood home.
Therefore, Sonja had to complete the visit without her husband, but that same day she showed up to visit King Harald in the hospital. The queen was observed driving to the Rikshospitalet emergency room and taken to hospital without being seen.
The program does not change after admission.
Seeing and hearing expert Anders Johan Stavseng stated at the time that it will be a long time before the king cancels his royal assignments.
– Today, as I said, was the childhood home of the Minister and Sonja in Maihaugen, so I had probably looked forward to that day. So, something has probably happened here that those around them, or the king himself, have decided that additional control is needed here, he said on the same day the king was admitted.
The day before the inauguration, the king was quick and fast when he disembarked on the Royal Ship Norway along with Queen Sonja and Crown Prince Haakon, which may have indicated that the king’s inauguration was not planned in advance.
Admitted earlier this year
King Harald was admitted to the same hospital in January this year. At that time, admission was justified by dizziness.
“His Majesty King Harald was admitted to Rikshospitalet today due to dizziness. No serious illness has been found,” the royal household statement said at the time.
While King Harald was ill, it was Crown Prince Haakon who replaced his father and served as regent.
– Thanks for your consideration. The king is on the mend and hopes to return home from the hospital this week. Under good condition. He was dizzy and sick, so he came to the hospital. It has been a difficult period. But we went to great lengths to take care of each other, the Crown Prince told reporters shortly before the king was overthrown in January.

It was also reported that King Harald was ill before Christmas last year, later due to a viral infection. On Christmas Eve, he was discharged and celebrated Christmas with the royal family as planned.
