TV 2 commentator Kasper Wikestad is afflicted with bowel and kidney cancer.
The message was received by Wikestad in early August in relation to acute appendicitis.
– I’ve been through four pretty violent operations. That’s why I need time, says Wikestad in a statement to Dagbladet and TV 2.
– In a way, I was lucky, because the appendix was gossiping about cancer, so they found out pretty quickly. The people of Ullevål are absolutely amazing. Everything from doctors to nurses to physical therapists and others. “I don’t think I’ve met more wonderful people anywhere,” says Kasper Wikestad.
It has been a central part of TV 2’s Premier League coverage since 2010. Wikestad has been a commentator, expert and presenter. Additionally, he has commented on ice hockey and snowboarding during the Sochi Olympics in 2014.
The TV 2 profile will naturally not be seen or heard when the Premier League starts again in just two weeks.
– A popular and respected colleague
Workplace TV 2 plays on Wikestad.
– This has been dramatic news that has characterized our editorial team recently. Kasper is a popular and respected colleague who is highly appreciated by the community, and we do our best to support Kasper and the family in a difficult time, says TV 2 sports editor Vegard Jansen Hagen.
– Now we are mobilizing all good thoughts for Kasper. This will take time, but we are waiting patiently. For TV 2 Sporten it’s not the same until Kasper returns as a commentator and colleague, says the sports editor.
Before Wikestad started on TV 2, the 44-year-old worked for several years as a journalist at the soccer newspaper Tips and as a sports photographer. He also commented on the Elite Series for Canal +.
Wikestad has a wife and two children.
