Johaug walked about ten kilometers on the Finnish trails in lonely majesty. There was no one who could do anything for her.

More exciting was the duel for the last two places on the podium. There was a drama that the television broadcast failed to capture.
There were only a few kilometers left when seven athletes lay together. Among them Ebba Andersson, Rosie Brennan, Frida Karlsson, Natalia Neprjajeva, Tatiana Sorina, Maja Dahlqvist and Linn Svahn.
Everything was in place for two Swedes behind Johaug on the podium. Svahn and Dalhqvist are among the best sprinters in the world. But on one of the latest descents, the Swedish duo were out of the picture and out of the game. Everyone who followed the race scratched their heads.
– Something dramatic must have happened, stated NRK commentator Jann Post, hinting in the long run that an accident must have occurred.
Disappeared down the back road
That should be true. Svahn went to the goal well behind the best and disappeared out of the goal area. When an Aftonbladet reporter tried to get a comment, he responded as follows:
– Do not even try! Svahn replied.
However, Dahlqvist lined up in the press area. She says it was a fall case, where Svahn fell first.
– I’m really disappointed now. I think I could have gone to second and third place if not

– You have to be cursed when you fall. I think it’s okay for him to allow it, says Dahlqvist when told that Svahn simply disappeared from the target area.

Tatiana Sorina and Ebba Andersson won the sprint for second and third places. They were 47 and 48 seconds behind Johaug, while Frida Karlsson was number four at the end.
