Johaug had to withdraw from the World Cup final – NRK Sport – Sports news, results and broadcast schedule

The Norwegian Ski Association reported the injury in a press release on Saturday morning.

– This is going well, but I have to rest for a few days, says Johaug himself in the press release.

As is well known, Johaug took four golds during the WC in Oberstdorf, which for the women was completed exactly one week ago.

She was therefore a clear favorite in the World Cup final in Engadin, Switzerland, where there is a joint 10km classic outing on Saturday and a 30km freestyle race on Sunday.

Cause: World Cup heat

National team doctor Remi Andersen says the inflammation is indirectly due to the hot weather at the World Cup in Oberstdorf, explaining it as follows:

– Therese usually wears slightly thick gloves that pad well on the wrist. Then there were thinner gloves and a slightly different handle to fit the gloves. When you get some new equipment with a long-term load, it may cause some irritation or slight inflammation.

According to the doctor, the inflammation is already improving, and Johaug has alternately trained this week.

– It has been very good to relieve and to walk a little without poles and to run. That’s what makes sense. When the body feels some pain, it is a sign that it wants some peace, he says.

According to Andersen, Johaug could also take part in this weekend’s competitions, but is opting not to risk the injury situation getting worse.

– Yesterday he was skiing, and when he adapts it, he will train well. But on the field the stakes are high here, so it would be too difficult a burden, he says.

“Tiltufsad” Karlsson

Johaug’s injury means that the two best distance runners in the World Cup are already out of the World Cup final. Sweden’s Frida Karlsson, who took two silvers and a bronze at the World Cup, has retired due to the injury she suffered in a three-mile World Cup crash.

Karlsson has yet to receive a definitive diagnosis

– I think, or does the physiotherapist think, that the tendon in the thumb that joins the middle of the forearm has “tilted” a bit, Karlsson told NRK on Friday.

– It gets better and better, I think. But it is not quite good. I’ve relieved it and left with a stick. I can touch my thumb more and more, but it still hurts a little. Then we’ll see what it turns out to be, Karlsson said.

Jessie Diggins of the USA has already won the World Cup, regardless of this weekend’s final.
