When Donald Trump (74) first ran for office in 2016, his family became one of the most talked about people in the world. Perhaps it was especially the women of the family, and especially his wife Melania, who received a lot of attention. The future first lady, who had a modeling past and married Trump at a young age, quickly became a woman plagued by scandals.
Not so much has been written about Jill Biden (69), who is now the new first lady of the Americans. The 69-year-old former teacher has been married to the Democratic presidential candidate since 1977.
In his victory speech Sunday night, Biden thanked his wife Jill, the children, the grandchildren and the rest of the family.
– Jill is going to be a great first lady, I am very proud of her.
Jill Biden is popular with her husband’s followers, and many see her as one of the best things that could have happened to him.
Was the rescue
She came into his life during one of the most demanding periods the president has ever been through.
One of the biggest pain you’ve ever experienced came as a result of a fatal accident in 1972. Just weeks after being elected senator in Delaware for the first time, you received a phone call that you will probably never forget.
His wife Neilia, whom he married in 1966, had taken their three children, Beau, Hunter and Naomi, on Christmas shopping in December. On the way home from the trip, his car was hit by a car at an intersection. Two out of four never returned home. His wife was only 30 years old and his daughter Naomi was only one.
At the time, Jill Biden was a young student. She has said that she only managed to meet Neilia once and wished her luck in the first senatorial elections.
Little did the young student, then known as Jacobs’ last name, know that she was going to take the place of the woman she had greeted.
Overcome with enormous grief, he was sworn in as a senator next to Beau’s hospital bed in early 1973, just a month after the terrible accident. The first years without his wife and daughter were hard. He worked full time as a senator, but traveled an hour and a half each way, every day, to be a family man at night.
But despite the fact that family and politics were at the center, over the years she managed to find love again. In 1977, he married teacher Jill, who took his last name after the wedding.
However, it was not entirely without a fight. He had to be free five times before she finally said yes.
– I always said “not yet”. At that point I had fallen in love with their children and felt that this marriage really had to work. The children had lost their mother and he couldn’t let them lose another mother. So he had to be completely sure, he told Vogue.
Jill Biden had been married once before. From 1970 to 1975, she was married to Bill Stevenson. The broken marriage was also one of the reasons I wanted it to work properly this time.
Clear support
The couple moved in together and, in 1981, they had their only daughter, Ashley (39). The boys also got a stepmother. However, the moment was not easy for the family.
– I fell in love with a man and two young children who were in the midst of an impossible loss. They missed a wife and a mother; a daughter and a sister. I could never imagine that at age 26 I would wonder how to fix a broken family, Jill Biden has previously stated, according to News.
– Joe always told the boys that “Mom sent us Jill”. And how could I argue about that? We had to figure things out together, he continued.
In August, Jill Biden spoke after her husband was formally nominated as the Democratic nominee. Then she gave a unique vision of how the relationship between her and the politician had been.
– Like many of you, I am left with the question: How do I keep my family safe? said the potential first lady.
“My husband will bring us the same and make us whole, help us move through this difficult time and keep the promise to America for all of us,” Jill Biden said in her speech.
It becomes historical
In contrast to painting her competitors black, in her speech she was concerned with drawing a human image of her husband. He has suffered more pain than many have to face.
– When his son Beau died of cancer, I wondered if he would ever smile or feel joy again. It was summer, but I was not hot.
She then praised her husband for how he coped with the loss and continued working after he died of a brain tumor in 2015.
– Four days after Beaus’s funeral, I saw Joe shave and put on a suit. I watched him harden in the mirror, take a deep breath, shrug, and step out into a world that no longer had our son. He went back to work. That’s what it is, Jill Biden said.
It will likely be a first lady with a focus on love and family values. However, she has stated that she will continue in the teaching job, which she has at Northern Virginia Community College. She also worked here while her husband was vice president of Barack Obama.
Jill Biden has two master’s degrees, which she earned while teaching English to young people in a mental hospital. He later earned a Ph.D. from the University of Delaware, which he presented in 2007.
She has been an English teacher at Northern Virginia Community College since 2009, becoming the most educated first lady in American history.
