– I’m shocked. Jakob has obviously taken a new step towards heaven, it is absolutely huge what he achieves, says coach and father Gjert Ingebrigtsen to Stavanger Aftenblad.

The 20-year-old parked the entire field, which included world record holder Samuel Tefera at French Lievin, but the Ethiopian had no chance against Sandnes’s boy.

With a time of 3: 31.80, Jakob Ingebrigtsen broke his own Norwegian record of 1500 meters indoors, and set a European indoor distance record, he also broke the world record.

The aforementioned Tefera set a world record of 1500 meters indoors in 2018, with a time of 3: 31.04.

Jacob’s time was the fifth best indoor distance time.

Big improvement

Ingebrigtsen’s previous Norwegian record was 3.36.02. In other words, it moved the record more than four seconds.

– This was my first race in 2021, you never know what it will be like. “I have trained very well, but today was very easy,” smiled Jakob in an interview with the organizer.

There he also stated that the indoor season is not something he wants to focus on, and that the Tokyo Olympics are the big goals of the season.

Ingebrigtsen’s personal best 1500 meter outdoor record is 3: 28.68, set in Monaco in 2020.

Filip disappointed

Filip had a bad start to the race and finished in the middle of the field, towards the end he fell further behind and had a disappointing night in France.

The Ingebrigtsen brothers have recently trained in the heights of the Spanish Sierra Nevada.

In early March, the European Indoor Championships are held in Torun, Poland. There, the final draw will be announced on February 25, but both Jakob and Filip are supposed to be very relevant to that championship.

On Tuesday night, Hedda Hynne put on a very uplifting performance, breaking her own personal record indoors and finishing third in the women’s 800m.

– It is a tough competition and everyone who participated is good at running. It’s about keeping my head in place and I feel like I did it today. I pat myself on the back for that, Hynne told NRK.
