It was only confirmed on Monday that Jakob Ingebrigtsen would run Tuesday’s race in Ostrava, just four days after his solo Majesty won the Diamond League competition in Brussels at 3.30.69.
Enrollment came so late that the organizer blinked and put older brother Filip Ingebrigtsen’s name on tonight’s television charts.
The question was if Jakob Ingebrigtsen was able to improve on his own European record of 3.28.68, set in Monaco on August 14.
The answer is that he couldn’t, but the 19-year-old still ran a class race. He won with a superiority in the time of 3.33.94 in a race where the most important thing was to win.

Smart maneuver
The Sandnes rider was in third and fourth position for a long time, but took the lead with a clever maneuver with one lap remaining.
– There was no place, but he found a place and is in position, exclaimed NRK commentator Jann Post as Ingebrigtsen took control of the race.

Not surprisingly, Ingebrigtsen was a huge favorite in the 1500 meters in Ostrava. Arch rival Timothy Cheruiyot did not participate, and the Norwegian was the only one on the field who had run below 3.31.
On paper, only the two Australians Ryan Gregson and Stewart McSweyn, the Ethiopian Yomif Keyelcha and the Spaniard Ignacio Fontes could threaten the Norwegian on an epic good day.

NRK expert Vebjørn Rodal understands that Ingebrigtsen did not spend a maximum time tonight.
– Win again. I understand that Jakob has such a career. It’s hard to be prepared to run a personal best every time. It’s fun to do a few races like this sometimes, where you race through a place. It is very important to see that Jakob is also capable of deciding these races, says Rodal.

Australian McSweyn appeared to give Ingebrigtsen the strongest battle for victory, but Kenyan Kumari Taki overtook him at the rear. Taki finished 0.23 seconds behind Ingebrigtsen, McSweyn another 0.11 seconds behind.
- Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s next race will take place in the Diamond League competition in Rome on Thursday 17 September. There you will soon be able to fight for a new European record of 3000 meters.
