The great talent lived up to expectations and took his first outdoor NM gold in senior class. But after 400 meters of full sprinting, the legs also completely failed. Henriette Jæger tried to get up, but fell several times on the tartan cover.
– It’s going well, I’m just stiff, she explains to NRK in a kneeling position.
– Can you describe the feeling?
– Ohh. Totally gone. I am lame in the legs, yes. It’s like this when I sit down, my legs just go off completely. So it takes me a while to recover, says the 17-year-old and smiles.
Finally he got up and went with his mother and coach Unn Merete Jæger.
– She comes out 100 percent every time. That was today’s recipe too, and then she’s not so used to distance, and this is a lactic acid test, says mother Jæger.
– very unreal
Jæger is actually a sick fighter, and last week she set a world record in the U18 class. In the NM there is no multiple fight, and she decided to participate in 200 meters long and 400 meters. Even though she had only run 400 meters once before in her career. On Friday, she won the attempt for the first time, before it turned into magnificent gold with a time of 52.90.
– It is fun. I took one indoors so it’s really fun to repeat it outdoors now. He had high hopes of taking him to 400 meters, but he will run, he says.
– She is big, and although she is not a specialist in distance, she is well trained. Henriette is a wonderful person and also a great athlete. She is raw, praising her mother and adding that her daughter also ran 400 meters once when she was 10 years old.
– What is it like to be a favorite in the National Championship at 17?
– It really is very unreal. If you think about it, a year ago I wasn’t here at all. It’s fun and it puts a lot of pressure on me that I usually deal with, so I really think it makes me better.
I thought i was out
But I was terribly nervous before the start. And when it turned out to be a false start when the gun was fired, she thought she would be disqualified.
– I shook so much in the starting block that I thought they took it as a false start, but luckily it was not. I was very nervous. I don’t think I’ve ever been so nervous before a race, says Jæger.
But the sensation in the legs, was not completely unknown.
– Both after 800 and 400 will be like this. I’m a sprinter so my legs aren’t used to running like this, but it eventually works out, says the Aremark athlete.
– How long does it take to get back on your feet?
– I’m going to run down now, so now it’s starting to happen.
On Saturday it will go into action both in length and in 200 meters.
– Let’s go “with everything.” Then we can take the weekend as it comes, says the mother and the coach.
- NM in Athletics is shown on NRK 1 on Saturday at 5:00 PM and Sunday at 11:30 AM.
