– It’s crazy intoxication – VG

Do you like chess? Could he have become a professional boxer? What do you like most about video games and Russian music? VG challenged several well-known athletes to ask questions of Erling Braut Haaland (20).

Published:

Jærbuen is not always so impressed with the questions he receives from journalists. So we gave him something else to work on.

In connection with his appointment as the best Norwegian athlete of 2020, VG passed a series of questions to Haaland from some of the most important profiles in Norwegian sport.

Karsten Warholm, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, Ada Hegerberg, Kjetil Jansrud, Magnus Carlsen, Cecilia Brækhus, national coach Ståle Solbakken and their soccer friend Sander Berge contributed their varying degrees of serious questions.

In addition, VG released two budding soccer talents: Thea Kyvåg (16) of LSK Women and Kristian Malt Arnstad (17) of Anderlecht.

Haaland in a great VG interview: – I had to think differently

The new director of the Norwegian national team Ståle Solbakken He still hasn’t spoken to Haaland after he got the job, but he wants an answer to one thing via VG:

– Will you return to the field soon?

– Yes. Very soon, says Haaland, who says “things are going well” with the injury and suggests he is aiming for Dortmund’s first home game against Wolfsburg on January 3.

While Haaland is the king of goals in Norwegian football, there is no question who the queen of goals is: Ada Hegerberg. The Lyon striker, who congratulates Haaland and encourages him to be “sharper”, has the following questions for his compatriot:

– How do you prepare and restart after matches?

– Now there have been so many fights, so it’s like, Haaland starts before the riots in the apartment disturb him:

– There have been so many matches, so it’s just to finish the match. Feel free to spend the night thinking about it, but when you wake up the next day, you’ve forgotten that struggle. I think I’m good at it. That’s why I don’t watch my games so much, says Haaland and continues:

– I just don’t have time to look at them. When you do, you may also overthink. It’s quite individual, but it works best for me to just go ahead and take the good things you did in the previous fight with you and move on to the next one.

– Do you have any thought processes after matches or does it just flow?

– It’s really just trying to get out of the game. This is one of the most difficult things for a footballer. You can quickly get locked in your head if you think too much, at least I think so. It is one of the most difficult things for a soccer player, but at the same time one of the easiest if he is good at it. To be able to shit on everything around him and move on to the next game. If you’ve been completely miserable in a fight, just shit in it. “I’ll show you those idiots in the next game,” he simply said. That’s a bit of what I think. Reboot and “dry” in the next game.

Norway’s biggest sports stars: nothing is normal

The cross country star Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, who is also very interested in football, you don’t get such a complete answer to your question:

– Some elite athletes usually have some rituals before a competition. Do you have any rituals before a match?

– No. Nothing special.

The winner of the VG Top 100 list in both 2017 and 2019, Karsten warholm, asks the following:

– Do you want to think about a comeback in the field of athletics?

– I’m good enough for that, but I think now I enjoy football more. I don’t have it in my plans right now, but we’ll see if I take a Usain Bolt the other way and move on with some athleticism after my run. We’ll see, Haaland smiles.

He doesn’t seem so impressed with the question to Alpine star and Liverpool fan Kjetil Jansrud:

– Raw who chose Liverpool from the summer of 2021. Why exactly that club?

Here you can see how Haalan reacts and responds:

Warholm isn’t the only one wondering if Haaland thinks he can do well in another sport. Boxing star Cecilia Brækhus would like to know:

– Could you handle yourself as a professional boxer?

– I do not think I can. So you might have to start now and train hard in boxing. I don’t have it completely on my fists, I have it more on my feet, I must be completely honest.

Two athletes have won the VG award three times: Bjørn Dæhlie and Ole Einar Bjørndalen. Only one athlete has won four times: Magnus carlsen.

The chess king’s question is simple, but he has prepared a follow-up:

– You like chess?

– No, answers Haaland.

– Why not? Chess is in many ways like football: the goalkeeper is the king, the striker is the queen.

– No, it’s just never interested me. I have a couple of friends, including Erik Botheim, who like chess, but I don’t understand why he likes it. I’d rather sit and play “Assassin’s Creed” a bit than play a game of chess. It’s more of a Martin Ødegaard thing. He can take care of the chess, then I can take care of the shooting.

Haaland clearly loves hours with the console, but there is something he likes even more. Because when his teammate Sander Berge poses the following dilemma, there is no question:

– Never listen to Russian songs again or never play Xbox again?

– Then I’ll never play Xbox again, that is. I can’t live without Russian music. Russian music is life. I’ve never been a Russian, so I think I’ll just be a Russian for the rest of my life.

Berge also has a more serious question in stock:

– You have to be the player of all time when it comes to smelling scoring chances and reacting. How do you manage to be aggressive and ruin every minute of a match?

– I like the question. I think since I was little, when I saw people score goals, I thought “oh, this is what I want.” Scoring goals is my life. That is what I am passionate about. It’s been all the way, but now it’s gotten pretty extreme as I’ve gotten as good at it as I am. So I just want to continue with that. There is nothing to beat that feeling. It’s crazy intoxication.

Haaland has quickly become a role model for girls and boys who want to achieve great achievements in sports in general and in soccer in particular. Therefore, VG invited two talents to ask the Dortmund star a question.

Thea Kyvåg (sixteen) by LSK Women and Kristian Malt Arnstad (17 years old) de Anderlecht asked similar questions:

– What is your best advice for young players who want to reach the top of football?

– There are a good number of those who ask me about it. This is a difficult question to answer. For me, it’s always been about having fun. When I no longer enjoy football, it no longer makes sense to play. For me, it’s about trying to have fun anyway, says Haaland, elaborating:

– For my part, I have fun when I win soccer games and when I score. So I try to do it to the end. But, for example, if you are a midfielder, if it is to win a duel, like Leo Østigård, if that is what drives you, then you move on. Then you recreate it completely. You need to find something to keep you going. For me, the goal is to win soccer matches. Then I try to recreate it completely. Now I’ve gotten pretty good at it, so then I’ll improve even more and try to recreate it as much as possible.

Kyvåg also has an additional question:

– Who are the toughest defenders you have ever met and why?

– I have met quite a few good midfielders. I must say that the top three in the world are Sergio Ramos, Virgil van Dijk and Kalidou Koulibaly. There are three good, strong and smart plugs.
