On January 6, the United States Congress will meet to formally count the votes of the voters. Texas Senator John Cornyn believes colleagues from the Republican Party should be too good at trying to challenge the outcome.
By late Monday night, it became clear that the various state electorates had formally voted Democrat Joe Biden as the country’s next president.
“Once again, the will of the people has won,” Biden said in a speech from his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, asking the country’s elected representatives to look ahead.

But even though the elections are almost decided, some Republicans, such as incumbent President Donald Trump, have signaled that they will not abandon the fight to challenge the outcome.
On January 6, elected representatives will meet in Congress to formally count voters’ votes, before Vice President Mike Pence declares a winner. Here, senators and members of the House of Representatives have a theoretical opportunity to protest the results.

Mo Brooks, who represents Alabama in the House of Representatives, warns that he will seize that opportunity.

John Thune, a senator from South Dakota, also says that an attempt to challenge voters’ votes will receive little support in the Senate.

For an attempt to change the outcome of the election to be successful, both the House of Representatives and the Senate must vote in favor.
The Senate is controlled by Republicans, while Democrats have a majority in the House of Representatives.

Missouri Senator Roy Blunt says he will treat Biden as incoming president, while Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander it says “the election is over.”

Biden himself said in his speech from Wilmington in Delaware that he is grateful to Republicans who have recognized the result.
– Four years ago, when I was vice president, it was my responsibility to announce the result of the Congressional elections, and they voted for Donald Trump. I did my job and I thank my former Republican colleagues in the Senate who already accepted the result of the vote.
Donald Trump has yet to comment on the outcome of the voters’ vote.
